Job Abstract

The Department of English and World Languages is in need of temporary, part-time instructors to teach major courses and courses within our General Education program. Temporary, part-time instructors are also at times needed to fill in for faculty on sabbaticals or leaves.

In addition to teaching, there is an expectation for scholarship and service commensurate with the assignment.

The purpose of this posting is to generate a pool of qualified faculty. Applications submitted will be reviewed on an as needed basis based on enrollment. Anyone meeting the qualifications may be contacted for an interview and potentially hired when a need exists. In the event that you are interviewed but not hired, your application will remain in the departments pool of qualified faculty.

Temporary, part-time instructor responsible for teaching writing courses such as Introduction to College Writing, Advanced Composition, Business Writing, Technical Writing, Science Writing, and Web Writing & Content Development. We also have need for temporary, part-time instructors to teach courses in literature, film studies, and English Education. Up to three courses per semester possible with potential for summer teaching as needed.

Teaching will be done in both traditional and online learning environments.

Part-time faculty members shall meet established learning outcomes for each course and use required teaching materials.

Part-time faculty members shall maintain a prorated number of office hours each week, at a minimum of twenty-five (25) minutes for each workload hour taught, at such days, times and locations as will accommodate the needs of the students.

This position may require in-person instruction on Millersville University’s campus. This position is contingent upon sufficient enrollments in assigned classes.

The Department of English, in the School of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, is comprised of 23 faculty members, a support staff and some 200 students. The department offers degrees in English, English Education, and Language & Culture Studies: Spanish at the undergraduate and graduate level. The department also offers concentrations in ESL/Linguistics, Film Studies, and Writing Studies.
