Management Aide
The City of Torrance Management Aide is an entry-level position for current graduate college students or recent graduates in a Master’s degree program, with six months of paid or unpaid experience in the public sector and an interest in pursuing a career in public administration. The current internship opportunity is in the Police Department.
Police Department The Police Department is seeking a Management Aide to be at the forefront of revitalizing the department’s recruitment strategies across all departmental positions. The Management Aide will dive deep into the analysis of the department's current recruitment practices, collect necessary data, and identify vital areas for improvement. The Management Aide will work alongside both sworn and professional staff to gain a broader understanding of each position’s specific needs and to develop strategies on how to attract top talent.
The Management Aide will also work to enhance the department's online presence by optimizing the department's website, social media platforms, and online job postings to effectively communicate the Police Department's values and career opportunities to potential applicants. This individual will be able to showcase their creativity by developing innovative marketing campaigns that showcase the department's commitment to public safety and professional development. Throughout the internship, the Police Management Aide will measure the success of recruitment efforts and establish key performance indicators to track progress and make data-driven adjustments to the department's tactics.
What You'll Gain:This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in personnel management, strategic planning, and digital marketing within a dynamic law enforcement environment. You'll have the chance to showcase your creativity, problem-solving skills, and strategic thinking while making a tangible impact on our recruitment efforts.
Successful candidates in this assignment will have an interest in recruitment, website development, and social media.
Hours: The Management Aide for this assignment is expected to commit 40 hours per week. This internship is for six (6) months.

QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES
How to qualify for the internship:
The Management Aide is an entry-level position for recent graduates of a Bachelor's program, current graduate students, and recent graduates of a Master's program in Human Resources, Psychology, Public Administration, Business Administration or related field, with six months of experience in a public sector setting and an interest in pursuing a career in public administration.
Ideal Candidate: In addition to the above requirements, the most successfulcandidate will possess the following:
Well organized, self starter who can work with minimum supervision;
Desire to gain experience in the public sector and may be considering a career in local government;
Someone who is eager to learn and is flexible in taking on various assignments;
Proficient in MS Office Applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access);
Demonstrate the ability to perform research, and analyze and communicate data;
Exercise sound judgement and strong problem-solving skills; and
Be an effective communicator with the ability to convey clear and succinct messages verbally and in writing.
