This is an Open Competitive recruitment to create an eligibility list for current and future openings. The current vacancy is for a Male locker room. Successful candidates are expected to work eight (8) hours a day, five (5) days a week, and twelve (12) months a year.
GENERAL PURPOSE
Under general supervision, organizes, controls, maintains, and prepares athletic equipment, supplies, uniforms, and facilities for students and athletes at an assigned school site; performs routine tasks related to taking inventory; and performs related duties as assigned.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
An incumbent in this class is responsible for ordering, issuing, repairing, setting up, maintaining, and monitoring the use of athletic equipment, supplies, uniforms, and facilities for individual and organized sports events and classes at a designated school site. Athletic Programs Assistant is distinguished from Locker Room Attendant in that the latter is primarily responsible for cleaning and maintaining assigned facilities at a designated school site whereas the former has a wider range of responsibilities involved in the care and maintenance of athletic equipment, uniforms and facilities, requiring a more diverse skill set and knowledge base.
Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Organizes, controls, and monitors athletic equipment, supplies and uniforms; as assigned and within established procedures, researches, orders or buys, and picks-up a wide variety of equipment and uniforms; receives orders, inspects for deficiencies and shortages and notifies the supervisor of any problems; marks or engraves received equipment and clothing; issues and distributes an extensive array of equipment, uniforms, and supplies for a large number of classes, practices, and competitive use; collects equipment and uniforms; identifies missing or damaged items and, as necessary, notifies proper staff; regularly performs inventory of equipment, supplies, and uniforms; prepares clothing, equipment, medical kits, and supplies for competitive games; assists in packing and loading equipment for trips and monitors equipment use at athletic events; travels with teams to athletic events, as required; sells uniforms and gym clothing to students according to established guidelines.
Maintains athletic and physical education equipment, supplies, and uniforms to ensure student safety and health; inspects clothing and equipment for damage; cleans, repairs, reconditions, or arranges for cleaning, repair and reconditioning of equipment; sorts clothing for cleaning, launders washable items, mends and stores uniforms; properly fits uniforms and equipment to assure adequate protection for athletes; educates students regarding the proper care of clothing and equipment and use of athletic facilities.
As directed, sets up fields, courts, and supplies for athletic events; sets up, lays out, and marks football and soccer fields; marks softball and baseball diamonds; sets up basketball courts, track and field events and spectator areas.
Maintains assigned physical education and athletic facilities areas in a clean and sanitary condition, including storage rooms, exercise rooms, locker rooms, gymnasium and shower facilities; sweeps, mops, and dusts floors; cleans, scrubs, and disinfects restrooms and showers, washes windows and walls; polishes metal work, cleans sinks, mirrors, and other fixtures, restocks supplies and refills dispensers; empties and cleans waste receptacles; picks up paper and other debris from assigned areas; removes graffiti; hoses down assigned areas.
Maintains complete and accurate inventory records; completes and files emergency and clearance cards; writes work orders for supervisor approval and processing.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Materials, supplies, uniforms, and equipment used in team and individual sports.
Methods and techniques to properly repair and recondition equipment and uniforms.
Methods of maintaining physical education facilities in a clean and sanitary condition.
Methods of appropriately fitting various athletic uniforms and equipment to provide adequate protection.
Basic math skills to correctly line fields and methods and techniques for setting up fields and courts for competitive play.
Health and safety regulations.
Basic record-keeping techniques.
Ability to:
Issue and maintain athletic and physical education equipment.
Maintain athletic facilities in a clean and sanitary condition.
Establish and maintain inventory and other routine records.
Mend and repair athletic clothing and repair equipment used in sports activities.
Properly fit uniforms and equipment to assure adequate protection for athletes.
Operate a variety of tools and equipment related to an athletic facility, including paint and chalk line marker, washer and dryer, electric cart, power blower, etcher and a variety of power and hand tools.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Understand, explain and apply District policies, rules and regulations related to areas of responsibility.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those encountered in the course of work.
Operate standard office equipment.
Education, Training, and Experience:
Graduation from high school, G.E.D. equivalent, or higher education; and
One (1) year of custodial experience in a school district setting or one (1) year of experience in maintaining athletic facilities, uniforms, equipment, and supplies in an organized setting of students or young people.
Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:
A valid First Aid and CPR certificate is preferred, but not required.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position classification must perform in carrying out essential job functions.
Works indoors in a locker room environment and outdoors in all kinds of weather.
Walking, sitting, and standing for extended periods of time.
Lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling moderately heavy objects up to 50 pounds without assistance.
Climbing ladders to put up nets, and clean scoreboards and backboards.
Bending at the waist, kneeling, and crouching; reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally.
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate and repair athletic equipment.
Exposure to cleaning solutions, dust, and chemicals;
Extensive interaction with students.
