Job Summary:
The Nursing Med Surg Nurse renders nursing care and related assistance to the Med Surg Department and Swing Bed patients, with patient-centered care being a primary responsibility. The LPN shall assist the RN in implementing the nursing process by providing direct patient care as evidenced by, but not limited to, documentation, direct observation, and patient evaluations. Knows and supports the philosophy and objectives of the Med Surg and Swing Bed Departments. Works under the direction of the Patient Care Coordinator and staff RN and is ultimately accountable and responsible to the Nurse Director. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served; also demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed.
Performance Expectations:
- Utilizes he/shes critical thinking abilities and when to alert PCC, the staff RN, MD/NP
- Possess the ability to tolerate the physically demanding task of moving equipment and patients, utilizing safety measures for both yourself and/or the patient.
- Is competent in patient interventions as evidenced by safe administration of medications, treatments, procedures, infection control, and addressing changes in status to care for patients safely
- Possess the ability to document required patient encounters in the EMR. Is competent to access and utilize the EMR for the provision of patient care
- Monitors and demonstrates the ability to provide 1:1 monitoring for suicide precaution, restraint use, de-escalation and peaceful interventions as well as proper documentation.
- Exhibits the ability to assist with setting up and maintaining sterile field during procedures.
- Able to provide insertion and removal of a peripheral IV in accordance with standards, policies, and procedures within the scope of LPN.
- Possess the ability to collect evidence, following all state, federal, and/or hospital regulations.
- Able to safely utilize equipment including, but not limited to V/S machine, defibrillator, manual and automated blood pressure devices, glucometer, Portable and wall suction devices, Pure wick setup, Accu-Check, SCD pumps, Patient warmer, Central Station Monitors, Telepack portable monitors, patient beds, Omni-cell, Cisco IP Phones, Responder Call Light System, fax, printer, scanner and the label maker
- Is proficient of EKG strip interpretation and recognizing lethal arrhythmias after taking the Telemetry Course
- Utilizes knowledge of age-specific needs of patients, from pediatric to adult in the performance of duties and responsibilities
- Take pictures of wounds upon admission and update them as needed.
Qualifications:
Education/Skills
Graduate of a recognized non-online LPN program required. Must complete education on EKG Rhythm Interpretation training in orientation
Work Experience:
Medical-surgical experience preferred, not required.
Certification/Licensure-DUE UPON HIRE
- Licensed RN able to practice within the State of MS
