The UVA Comprehensive Cancer Center (UVACCC) is seeking a Grants and Contracts Specialist or Administrator to focus on all aspects of grants management from the time of notice of award through close out. In the UVACCC, this involves all of the standard post-award functions with additional emphasis on communication with other units/departments that have employees supported by grants managed by the UVACCC. The preferred candidate will have excellent communication skills, be adept at learning new systems, demonstrate a strong attention to detail, and be excited about learning new concepts and processes. The ability to work self-sufficiently on assigned tasks while still being an active and integral part of the UVACCC Grants and Finance team is essential to success in the role. The selected applicant will work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment, requiring excellent time management and organizational skills. This position is eligible for remote, hybrid or in-person work.
Responsibilities include:
Create and maintain subcontracts to other institutions
Independently review sponsored award terms and conditions, identify reporting, invoicing and other specific financial requirements, and track tasks through the financial system.
Monitor personnel and OTPS expenses as they occur to ensure they conform to budget and federal costing principles. Initiate costing allocations, payroll accounting adjustments, and journal entries as needed to ensure correct spending.
Communicate with other UVA units about budgets for spending in their units
Assist with effort reporting in the new PAC System.
Approve purchases and expenditures or maintain and reconcile accounting records.
Ensure compliance with terms and conditions of contracts relating to effort reporting, expenditures, and personnel actions.
Provide information on policy and procedure interpretation, new regulations, and new processes to faculty, staff, and external sponsors.
Provide cross-coverage for pre-award activities

Grants & Contracts Specialist Minimum Requirements
Education: Associate's degree
Experience: At least two years of grant and contract experience. Two additional years of experience may be accepted in lieu of degree.
Grants and Contracts Administrator Minimum Requirements
Education: Bachelor's degree
Experience: At least three years of grant and contract experience. Four additional years of experience may be accepted in lieu of degree.
Licensure: Certified Research Administrator (CRA) certification is preferred
