The Prince George’s County Department of Fire & Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a Counselor IV, grade G27, in the FD- Risk Management Division.
About the Position
The Prince George's County Fire/EMS Department is seeking qualified applicants to fill a Counselor IV position, grade G27, within its Health and Wellness Office. This is a professional and supervisory level position, whereby the incumbent provides direct clinical consultation and counseling to members (employees and volunteers of the Fire/EMS Department). Accountability Statement: The incumbent in this position is authorized to carry out those duties and responsibilities in accordance with the established performance standards and is subject to reporting and justifying task outcomes to those above him/her in the Department's chain of command. The incumbent treats all information, administrative or operational, as strictly confidential, not to be disseminated in any form unless expressly authorized. The incumbent in this position is deemed "essential personnel" and is subject to report during standard or non-standard hours as operations necessitate.

The mission of the Prince George’s County Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Department is to serve our communities with excellence by providing the highest quality of risk reduction, fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical, and all-hazards response services to enhance the quality of life in Prince George’s County.
Examples of Work
Provides direct counseling for Fire/EMS Department members and their families to include marital, family, job-related, and other issues.
Interviews will include diagnostic evaluation, treatment recommendations, and appropriate referrals.
Emotional/ Psychological Assessment and referral services for all problem categories, including but not limited to marriage and family.
Conducts clinical interviews by the American Psychological Associations Ethical Principles for Psychologists.
Case management for client's dealings with alcoholism, drug use or dependency, and co-dependency that including.
Provides emergency counseling services to Fire/EMS members.
Provides follow-up counseling, including aftercare and group work.
Assist with significant projects, including evaluating Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) procedures and Resiliency Models for CISM.
Assists in coordinating the Employee/Volunteer Assistance Program (EAP/VAP).
Provides EAP promotional information to members of the Fire/EMS Department.
Assists in the record-keeping for all clinical services and correspondence with clinicians on behalf of the customer.
Assists in developing all the Employee/Volunteer Assistance Program (EAP/VAP) reporting requirements.
Performs other tasks and duties assigned, which may not be listed specifically in the position description; however, they are within the general occupational category and responsibility level typically associated with the employee's work class.
Qualifications
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Counseling, Social Work, Social Services, Sociology, Psychology, or a closely related field;
Three (3) years of professional experience providing counseling services to clients with emotional, behavioral, or substance abuse disorders;
One (1) of which must have included supervisory responsibilities.
Applicants must have and maintain an active/valid professional Counseling License issued by the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists (BOPC). An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
EACH CANDIDATE MUST INCLUDE INFORMATION THAT CLEARLY DEMONSTRATES THE ABOVE QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION.
Preferred Qualifications:
Comprehensive experience identifying, synthesizing, and evaluating complex budget-related issues and assignments, bringing together information from a variety of sources, and selecting appropriate analytical approaches.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to analyze and interpret detailed budgetary and financial reports and the capability to develop, implement and maintain extensive reporting systems is also preferred.
Three (3) years of experience working cases related to substance abuse disorders.
