Job Summary
The Senior Geospatial Engineering Research Leader is a high-level technical position for individuals who are recognized within and outside of the organization as outstanding authorities in a geospatial related technical/scientific field. Demonstrates the ability to use their technical expertise to create a competitive advantage for Battelle. Exhibits a superior degree of ingenuity, creativity and resourcefulness in the application of advanced technologies, principles, theories and concepts. Identifies and applies technologies to advance outcomes in current and adjacent fields. Acts independently to uncover and resolve problems associated with the development and execution of programs. Plans R&D programs and advocates technology application programs to achieve strategic objectives. Emphasis is placed on high quality technical and business/planning activities. The Geospatial Engineering Research Leader position engages a broad range of geospatial pursuits, including geospatial data collection, processing, and analysis, and prototype systems development and integration to support military and civilian operational, logistics, and environmental capabilities development.
Responsibilities
- Lead Geospatial Program technical support and consulting services.
- Provide geospatial engineering and related subject matter expertise
- Assist with inter- and intra-agency collaboration and coordination.
- Participate in and lead technical working groups as required.
- Provide leadership in geospatial research areas that is in a current or projected Battelle business area.
- Exhibit a high degree of ingenuity, creativity, and resourcefulness in the application of advanced technologies, principles, theories and concepts. May identify technologies with sustainable market impact and advise Business Leaders in setting the strategic direction for the commercialization of technology.
- Maintain a national or international reputation.
- Act as a high-level technical resource to improve the quality of all projects in that area, either in an advisory or independent oversight capacity. Identify and apply technologies to enhance outcomes.
- Train, mentor and lead technical staff.
- Provide high-level strategic and/or technical advice to senior management. Collaborate with Business Leaders on strategic decisions.
- Assist line management in evaluating the technical performance of other staff.
- Serve as Technical Leader responsible for the development, maintenance and facilitation of technical network capabilities that are aligned with the strategies of market sectors, product lines, and technology platforms.
- Enhance Battelle\u2019s reputation in the area of specialization by publishing and presenting results of R&D activities and by serving on national committees, advisory boards, editorial boards, etc. as appropriate.
- Provides input regarding the allocation of IR&D funds.
Key Qualifications
- Bachelor\u2019s degree in science or engineering with a minimum of 20 years of experience in a related field; a master\u2019s degree in science or engineering with a minimum of 15 years of related experience; PhD in science or engineering with a minimum of 10 years of experience in related field; or an equivalent combination of education and or experience in a related field.
- Executive leadership experience is required in additional to the educational requirements.
- Proven multiple-role leader with the ability to adapt and succeed in rapidly changing business environments by utilizing strong interpersonal skills while leveraging robust analytical and technical expertise.
- Consensus builder easily develops and cultivates relationships with diverse sets of internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent and energetic communicator practiced in delivering and shaping content for the highest levels of organizations.
