Job Abstract

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled RN Circulator to join our healthcare team. As an RN Circulator, you will play an essential role in ensuring our patients receive the highest quality of care during surgical procedures. You will work collaboratively with the surgical team to provide safe and effective patient care in a fast-paced environment. Your responsibilities will include:

• Utilizes assessment skills and tools to identify problems, needs and intervention.
• Recognizes patients and family's need for instructions and initiates appropriate action.
• Sets priorities for action, based on problem-solving process, common sense, and meeting patient care priorities.
• Recognizes and responds appropriately to signs and symptoms of health threatening changes and reports abnormal results of diagnostic studies to appropriate physician.
• Understand and meet the special needs of patients/significant others.
• Participates in reviewing and revising quality assessment improvement criteria and/or standards of care.
• Establishes and maintains aseptic environment for each surgical patient.
• Administers parenteral therapy, blood and blood products according to Policy.
• Administers medications according to SHOLA Policy.
• Carries out physician's orders accurately, clarifying questionable orders.
• Performs treatments and procedures according to SHOLA Policies.
• Initiates and carries out appropriate emergency procedures.
• Initiates nurse-physician communication appropriately.
• Maintains a clean, safe, and quite environment for patients, as well as, other personnel.
• Utilizes sound nursing judgment, as evidenced by ability to provide rationale for decisions made.
• Demonstrates ability to circulate on all types of surgical procedures performed at this facility.
• Demonstrates skills in organization: Accurately anticipates needs of surgical team by timely availability of needed supplies and equipment.
• Demonstrates a willingness to orient as scrub nurse on surgical cases.
• Documents, in writing, the specific actions during a code and conveys this information to Clinical Services Director.
• Serves as resource person for updating or improving patient care practices.
• Assists in facilitating patient-physician-nurse communication process.
• Assumes leadership role as a role model, especially in crisis situations.
• Possesses a working knowledge of equipment used in the Operating Room, as demonstrated by completing competency checklist.
• Reports damaged instruments to the Surgery Clinical Services Director and follows proper procedure for damaged instruments and/or equipment.
• Provides patient privacy and confidentiality allowing patient's dignity to be maintained.

Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

Experience: Two (2) years’ experience as an RN Circulator preferred.

Licenses/Certificates: Currently licensed as a nurse by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing. Current ACLS and BLS certification is required through American Heart Association (AHA). CNOR certification preferred but not required.

Special Skills: Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with a team and maintain composure under pressure.

Physical Requirements: Maintain physical tolerance (stand/walk/work on your feet for 8-12 hours at a time with minimal breaks).
