Job Abstract

Part-time Instructor to teach and oversee the Nurse Aide Training and Competency Evaluation Program (NATCEP) at least four times a year. Important note: Must have Two or more years of clinical nursing practice within the last five years with a least one year experience in a long-term care facility*

 *Definition: Long-term care facility – an institution licensed by the Department of Health as a long-term care facility. This includes a distinct unit of a hospital that possesses a separate license by the Department of Health (transitional care or skilled care unit) and geriatric units at a Veterans Administration institution. This does not include the following: institutions that provide care for the chronically disabled or mentally challenged, geriatric psychiatry, hospice care, home care, and general medical units in a hospital.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
1. Theoretical knowledge and clinical expertise with patients in long-term care.

2. Evidence of knowledge of regulations that guide and direct nurse aide training programs.

3. Evidence of ability to teach effectively.

4. Knowledge of curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation as it applies to teaching nurse aide students.

5. Knowledge of principles and methods of adult education.

6. Computer proficiency in PC.

7. Strong organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills.

8. Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.

9. Reliable to carry out responsibilities in a timely and meticulous manner.

10. Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive student issues.

11. Ability to make timely decisions appropriate to the situation, circumstances, and facts at hand.

12. Ability to provide timely feedback, support, and encouragement to students

13. Ability to safeguard sensitive or confidential information from intentional or unintentional disclosure.

14. Ability to identify opportunities to improve present programs and/or operations

15. Ability to maintain a current inventory of equipment and supplies, ensure that equipment is in proper working order and determine future equipment and supply needs in accordance with Department of Education regulations.

16. Essential physical competencies include extended sitting, standing, and walking daily, ability to grasp, hold, push, and/or pull, ability to bend or squat, moving quickly in response to an emergency using upper body movements, ability to reach, carry, move and/or lift approx 25 lbs. and/or occasionally push or pull objects on a rolling cart up to approx. 50 lbs.

17. Ability to perform assigned responsibilities, duties and tasks according to established practices.

18. Ability to demonstrate, use and maintain equipment, tools and materials in a safe and correct manner.

19. Ability to record and maintain proper records and to meet deadlines for reports and other required paperwork.

Responsibilities:

1. Teaching:

a. Adherence to state and federal regulations that guide and direct nurse aide programs as prescribed by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

b. Creates and delivers the lesson plans for the nurse aide curriculum.

c. Measures student-learning outcomes.

d. Trains students in selected technical aspects of patient care in the lab and clinical setting.

e. Compiles educational material and supportive documents and props to enhance teaching sessions.

f. Solicits student feedback to analyze the impact of the course on the learning process.

2. Management/Leadership:

a. Provides direct supervision to nurse aide students in the classroom and clinical setting.

b. Manages the daily operations of the classroom and learning lab that support the learning experiences.

c. Ensures maintenance of the classroom space as a professional, clean, safe and operational facility and optimal learning environment.

d. Schedules and coordinates classroom and lab activities for each nurse aide course.

e. Contributes to the development and implementation of policies, procedures and practices for the nurse aide program.

f. Oversees the inventory and maintenance of the laboratory supplies/equipment.

g. Anticipates supplies needed for courses and orders in advance of the courses.

h. Maintains records of all cohorts including, but not limited to: numbers of students enrolling and numbers of students completing.

i. Maintains meticulous student attendance records.

1. Minimum of Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing

2. Hold a current, unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania

3. Two or more years of clinical nursing practice within the last five years with a least one year experience in a long-term care facility*

4. Nurse Aide Instructor experience preferred

5. Current BLS

1. PA State Police Background Check
2. FBI Background Check
3. PA Child Abuse Clearance

4. Current Two-step PPD or Chest X-ray if applicable (within one year of hire)
5. Teaching-the-Educator (TTE) Workshop Completion Certificate

6. Immunizations/Vaccinations as required by clinical facility (Messiah Lifeways)

7. Other clinical requirements as needed by agency (i.e. drug screening)
