JOB SUMMARY: The Multimedia Technician supports Communication Department productions and equipment. Regularly, the Multimedia Technician will technical direct live broadcasts of City meetings through the various tools and equipment, in both a control room and remote-based environment. The Production Supervisor will provide weekly assignments and tasks related to productions led by other Communications Department staff. The Multimedia Technician must be available and have flexibility to work evenings and occasional weekends to support City meetings and events. Additionally, the Multimedia Technician will maintain audio visual equipment at various City facilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Acts as Master Control Operator for Cable Channel 99, posting requested information on the cable channel in a timely manner.
Directs live televised meetings.
Maintains online video archiving of public meetings.
Tracks production equipment inventory.
Fixes and/or diagnoses equipment failures and unforeseen production changes.
Acts as contact for AV equipment needs/requests at various City facilities.
Edits video and photo assignments.
Assists studio and field productions.
Optimizes workflow of digital media files.
Utilizes cameras to capture visual imagery for assignments.
Works on/is available on rotating call schedule for night, weekend and emergency responses.
Cross-trains for technical skills with the Production Supervisor.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Associate degree or certification in specific field of digital media or related communications field from an accredited college or university or sufficient work experience in related communications field.
Two (2) years of work experience in video production.
Two (2) years of video broadcasting work experience.
Experience with the operation of audio and video production equipment.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATES AND/OR LICENSES:
Vehicle Operator’s license with satisfactory driving record that meets insurability standards of the City’s insurance carrier is required. The employee must maintain the license for the duration of their employment.
Knowledge of industry standard production methods and procedures.
Knowledge of audio and video field production and control room equipment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to problem solve and troubleshoot.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, elected officials, and the general public.
OTHER DESIRABLES:
Working knowledge of software such as Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, or other appropriate, digital media applications.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
Working knowledge of audio engineering.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by the incumbent to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee will occasionally be required to ascend/descend stairs and ladders to access broadcast locations. This individual must have the ability to coordinate two or more limbs while remaining in a stationary position, standing or sitting down. The employee is regularly required to lift and move 10-20 pounds, occasionally required to lift and move 20-30 pounds and less frequently required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds of equipment with assistance.
The employee must have the ability to observe items in close proximity and at a distance, to differentiate color, and to detect items to the left and right as well as to recognize depth and to adjust focus. This position requires visual acuity which permits the employee to comprehend written work instructions and review a wide variety of written correspondence, reports, and related material in both electronic and text form. The jobholder is required to have the visual acuity necessary for normal visual inspection (with or without correction), including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
The employee must have the ability to perceive the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction and have the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound. The employee is required to listen to and understand information and ideas presented in the English language through spoken word and sentences. This individual must have the ability to recognize there is a problem. The employee is required to identify information by categorizing, estimating, recognizing differences or similarities, and detecting changes in circumstances or events. The employee must be able to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word, including activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, and/or quickly.
