Position Summary:
Level Four – Independently operate 3-5 axis CNC machines and conventional mills and lathes to produce complex aerospace parts demonstrating advanced cross-training flexibility, including first part run and full machine recovery. CNC machinists can complete complex setups on three and 5-axis machines and apply advanced blueprint and GD&T reading to complex production inspection processes. Machinists have advanced understanding of CNC programing, editing and tooling creation. Machinist competencies include troubleshooting complex parts. Leadership and mentoring skills are also expected of level four machinists. Typically 5+ years of experience.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Work safely, load/unload parts, perform in-process inspection, basic deburring, and preventative machine maintenance.
- Fully operate multiple machine platforms, including CNC and conventional Mills and Lathes.
- Perform complex setups without assistance on several machine platforms, including three and 5-axis machines.
- Perform complex inspection tasks to validate and respond to dimensional requirements and specifications utilizing advanced GD&T and print reading abilities.
- Perform routine inspections to ensure optimal functionality of equipment.
- Validate the programs and first part runs for newly developed products.
- Assist in accurate and safe full machine recovery.
- Daily removal of chips and coolants to maintain cleanliness.
- Provide the site with full cross training flexibility in the operation of machine platforms.
- Without assistance, trouble shoot and provide assistance to lower-level machinists.
- Design, manufacture and validate tooling for a number of production needs.
Required Skills:
- Advanced competencies in machine platform operation to demonstrate cross-training flexibility, including operating conventional machines at a basic level.
- Advanced knowledge of GD&T and inspection processes.
- Advanced ability in job setup and verification of all tooling, program & machine platforms.
- Complex trouble shooting skills applied to a wide range of production processes.
- Advanced understanding of CNC programing, editing and tooling creation.
- Intermediate CAD/CAM
- Ability to read calipers, high gauges, micrometers, and indicators.
- Mentoring and leadership skills.
- Ability to lift to 35lbs.
Required Experience:
- 5+ years of experience in CNC machining
Level of Education:
- GED or High School diploma preferred but not required.
- A machinist certificate is a plus.
