Regeneron's Preclinical Manufacturing and Process Development (PMPD) group is looking for a energetic Staff Engineer to focus on the viral vector process development. You will be responsible for analytical development and support manufacturing process development functions. In this role you will work as part of a multi-functional team to develop Adeno-Associated Virus (AAV) manufacturing processes, assays, and products. This is a growth opportunity that combines the excitement and opportunity of a start-up with the security and institution knowledge gained from working for a larger firm.

A Typical Day in the Role of Staff Engineer Might Look Like:

Perform physicochemical characterization for all stages of viral vector products
Support process development and production by designing and developing fast and robust assays for the characterization of AAV.
Perform technology transfer of AAV characterization assay to external and internal GMP partners to enable clinical and commercial production of therapeutic AAV gene therapy products
Cross-train on and provide support for upstream and downstream process development operations.
Provide scientific expertise in theory and practice of manufacturing steps and analytical methods and mentor junior colleagues to expand team capabilities.
Support routine sample testing for characterizing AAV safety, integrity, strength, purity and quality, get results, and onboard new technologies.
Maintain instruments and fix instrumental/experimental problems.
Prepare and deliver effective oral presentations in area of expertise at internal and external professional meetings.

This position requires a PhD with 3-5+ years proven experience in either Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Automation Engineering, or related field. Final position level would depend on years of experience. The ideal candidate would have: A strong fundamental understanding assay development, of developing analytical methods for bioprocess characterization and a detailed understanding of statistical analysis principles used in Design of Experiments to efficiently, to optimize and characterize assays. Experience with outsourcing assays and oversight of CRO activities is a plus. Experience in high-throughput assays is a plus. Familiarity with automated liquid handlers is desired. Prior experience with AAV-based gene therapies is a plus.

Meaningful experience with some of the following techniques is helpful: qPCR/ddPCR, ELISA-based assays, Analytical Ultracentrifuges, Benchling, Western Blots and Gel Electrophoresis, HPLC, UPLC, Mass Photometry, Dynamic and Static Light Scattering, Hamilton Liquid Handlers, Empower, UNICORN, LIMS, NGS.
