Description
Under the direction of the Principal, the Athletic Director is responsible for the effective administration of the middle and high school athletic programs. Specific responsibilities are as follows:
Prepares a proposed annual budget for all sports for submission to the Principal.
Ensures that all expenditures for the athletic programs are provided for in the approved budget and are processed according to established school regulations.
Assists the Principal in hiring and assignment of coaches.
Becomes familiar with all applicable C.I.F., C.A.A, Leagues and N.C.A.A. policies and regulations and rules covering current and transfer students.
In-services all coaches on these policies and regulations with a view to ensuring their implementation in the school’s athletic programs.
Supervises and formally evaluates coaches in the various programs offered by the school.
Ensures that athletes have undergone the required medical examinations before engaging in practice.
Maintains a log of all athletic injuries and oversees the filing of appropriate insurance forms.
Obtains the required parental consent forms and files them in the Athletic Director’s office.
Prepares and disseminates to teachers and administrators accurate team rosters and accurate team departure times.
Seeks approval for athletes required to leave campus for a competition prior to the end of the school day.
Provides a counseling program for athletes whose eligibility is jeopardized by poor grades or disciplinary attitudes.
Designs proposed master schedules for all sports with input from the head coaches and submits these to the principal for approval.
Ensures that all games scheduled with other schools are covered by valid contracts appropriately executed.
Arranges for the renting of playing fields and courts as necessary.
Arranges for the employment, payment and facilities for officials.
Requirements
Qualifications, Skills, Experience, Profile:
BA or BS degree in Education, administration, or management
High School Coaching experience
At least 2 years’ experience in a management position; Strong record of leadership and management of personnel and school/sports related programs.
Strong commitment to the mission of the Catholic Church.
Excellent communications skills, verbal and written.
Excellent human relations and interpersonal skills with all stakeholders.
Strong initiative, organizational & time management skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Ability to mentor coaches to grow the students and program.
Punctuality, and ability to travel as required; weekend availability is required.
Proficiency in relevant software applications needed to perform job functions.
