A Brief Overview The IT Pharmacist will be a member of the Pharmacy IT Clinical Systems Team with the responsibility to oversee and participate in the design, building and maintenance of the enterprise integrated electronic health record and pharmacy information systems. Under the direction and leadership of Pharmacy IT Clinical Systems manager, and responsibility to the Department of Pharmacy. The IT Pharmacist is responsible for the system architecture, integration, functionality and support of clinical information systems as it pertains to medication therapy the pharmacist will work with subject matter experts to conduct workflow analysis of current practice, suggest practice improvement and standardization, advise on design flow for the components of the information systems, build, and develop training and support materials for implementation. System design, build and implementation will adhere to evidence-based best practices, keeping medication safety, efficacy and cost in mind.
What you will do
Participate as a member of the Electronic Health Record (EHR) build team. * Oversee and participate in the design, build, implementation and maintenance of medication therapy portions of the EHR and other pharmacy system applications and equipment. * Implement medication-related decision support throughout the EHR, including but not limited to: * Real-time screening and edits for drug-drug interactions, allergies, etc. * Focus on high-risk medications such as oncology, parenteral nutrition, pain control * Decision rules (dosing appropriateness, route selection, dose adjustment rules for end-organ dysfunction, etc.). * Prescribing guidelines and restrictions; * Medication order sets design and build * Clinical practice guideline compliance tools (hard edits, reminders, etc.) * Formulary updates. * Maintain the EHR to support drug research and the Pharmacy Investigational Drug Program.
Multidisciplinary Teamwork and Coordination * Work with Pharmacy leadership and administration to design and implement workflow changes that are necessary and adhere to best practices. * Work with Clinical Informatics and subject matter experts on an on-going basis. * Work directly with patient care staff, including but not limited to providers, nurses, infection preventionists, respiratory therapists and dieticians for IT related matters. * This includes serving as a primary communication conduit with regard to the implementation of new or modifications to existing medication therapy decision support tools. * On-going support of various functions within the EHR and other medication therapy-based applications that have been implemented * Assist with staff training of the EHR and other care-related applications
Assist with staff training of the EHR and other care-related applications * Work with new and existing vendors. * Coordinate efforts between pharmacy administration and vendors, including communications, build, support and staff education.
Project Management and Team Coordination * Function a liaison between all Information Technology teams and hospital staff as it relates to medication therapy and patient care information systems. * Serve as a role model, demonstrating effective communication, leadership and professionalism. * Act as a consultant and resource to IT, pharmacy, medical staff and patient care staff.
Develop project plans and manage individual projects in accordance to IT and hospital policy and procedures.
Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited Pharmacy School Required and
Pharm D program Required and
Qualified by education, training or experience to work with the neonate, infant, adolescent, adult, and/or geriatric patient population as specialty assignment dictates. Required and
Residency in Pharmacy Informatics Preferred and
Master's Degree MS in Healthcare Informatics Preferred
PHARMD - Licensed Pharmacist Current Tennessee licensure as a Pharmacist. Upon Hire Required
Additional certification may be required based on assignment. Upon Hire Required
Minimum 3 years experience In pharmacy informatics Preferred or
Residency training or equivalent experience Required and
