ABOUT THIS ROLE: The Human Services Caseworker's key role is to oversee the coordination of the Virginia The Human Services Caseworker's key role is to oversee the coordination of the Virginia Homeless Solutions Program (VHSP) financial assistance and case management for those staying at the Ferlazzo Emergency Shelter, Hilda Barg Homeless Prevention Center, or unsheltered individuals experiencing homelessness. As an integral member of the case management team, the caseworker will aid participants by recognizing their housing needs and assisting them to overcome barriers to housing. This includes helping search for suitable housing, filling out housing applications, securing financial assistance, and facilitating the transition from homelessness to stable, permanent housing. Additionally, the Human Services Caseworker is tasked with implementing strategies focused on housing stability, such as ensuring timely rent payments and promoting positive community relationships, to support participants in maintaining their housing long-term. The Human Services Caseworker will discuss the best practice of Progressive Engagement (delivering the right amount of rental assistance and case management services based on the participant's needs).

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in the human services field; or bachelor’s degree in any field accompanied by a minimum of two years appropriate and related experience in a human services related area.
PREFERENCES:
Experience working with homeless individuals.
Experience collaborating with community partners who assist the homeless population.
Ability to identify crisis situations and refer to appropriate professional staff.
General knowledge of available community resources.
Experience preparing, monitoring, and evaluating housing stabilization plans.
Schedule Requirements: Monday-Friday, 37.5 hours per week Special Requirements: All DSS staff members are required to provide emergency human services work in the event of an emergency disaster.
