THE POSITION

Under the supervision of the IBI Specialist, Autism Specialist and/or the classroom teacher, assist with the monitoring, coordination and implementation of Intensive Behavior Interventions involving Applied Behavior Analysis leading to Discrete Trial Teaching, Pivotal Response Teaching, Floor Time, Incidental Teaching and other methods while working with individuals with exception needs.
THE CANDIDATE
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Requires a high school diploma or the equivalent. Requires two years of college (48 units) or pass the District’s assessment that demonstrates knowledge and skills in assisting in instruction or pass the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST). An Associate’s degree is highly desirable. Requires three years of experience working with students with exceptional needs, including experience in an inclusion setting and/or Special Day Class.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: A valid California driver’s license.
Completion of the VUSD or Ventura County SELPA Intensive Behavior Intervention (IBI) certification training (including successful completion of extended mentoring program), or equivalent training/certification (e.g. 14 hours of Applied Behavior Analysis training or Registered Behavior Technician training).
Completion of Non-Violent Crisis Prevention and Intervention (NCPI) training and yearly refresher courses to keep certification current; employees must fulfill certification requirement prior to completion of the six-month probationary period.
Completion of the Ventura County SELPA Autism Certification Program or AFIRM online modules is recommended and preferred for this classification (but not required). Some incumbents in this classification may be required to speak, read and write in a designated second language.
THE DETAILS
TESTING INFORMATION The examination process may be comprised of multiple choice exam, performance assessment, computer skills exam, or any combination of assessment appropriate to determine technical ability to perform the duties listed in the job description.
Step 1: Application Screening (pass/fail) Applications will be screened for minimum qualifications, meeting Every Student Succeeds Act. Applications will be evaluated and ranked according to criteria that most closely meets the needs of the department, so it is essential that applicants provide as much detail as possible and answer all parts of the application, including work experience, the supplemental questionnaire and attach the necessary education documents. If there is a high number of qualified applicants, a comparative screening will be conducted to determine which of the applicants will be selected for invitation to the performance examination.
Step 1A: Proficiency Exam, (pass/fail), required if you do not possess a minimum of 48 college units. The proficiency examtest applicants on Math, English and the ability to assist a student. Applicants not possessing the 48 college units,must take and pass the proficiency exam in order move forward to Step 2 of the recruitment process. Schedule to be determined.
Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications for the position will be emailed an notification to schedule their qualifications appraisal interview. Notification will not be sent until after the closing date for the position. If there is a high number of qualified applicants, a comparative screening will be conducted to determine which of the applicants will be selected for invitation to the qualifications appraisal interviews.
Step 2: Qualification Appraisal Interview (weighted 100%) date to be determined. All applicants must achieve a passing score in each part of the examination process in order to be placed on the eligibility list.
ADDITIONAL SALARY INFORMATION New Hires – Initial Salary Placement The District has established criteria in place that recognizes the education and experience new employees bring to their role in supporting students and the services of the District. Upon approval of the Director of Classified Human Resources, a new employee may be provided with advanced step placement up to Step 5 based on the following criteria:
Additional qualifying experience beyond that required for entry into the class (limited to no more than one step for each two years of experience related to the classification)
Additional education at the college level beyond the educational requirements established for entry into the class (limited to no more than one step for each two years of education related to the position) To be considered for advanced salary placement upon hire transcripts and/or diploma must be provided
All new hires placed at Step 1 of the salary schedule will advance to Step 2 after successfully completing the six-month probationary period.
Longevity increments are offered based on years of service with the District: an additional 1.20% of base salary after completing 4 years of service, 4.10% at 9 years, 7.08% at 14 years, 10.15% at 19 years, 13.31% at 24 years, 16.46% at 29 years.
Promotional and/or transfer candidates will be placed at the appropriate step in accordance with established Personnel Commission Rules & Regulations.
Education Incentives: Criteria as of 07/01/2023: All active bargaining unit members are eligible for the education incentive, regardless of when degree was earned, for degrees above and beyond the stated minimum qualifications in the bargaining unit member's current classification. Courses must be taken at an accredited college or university and proof of degree must be submitted to HR. AA/AS = 2.50% BA/BS = 4.00% MA/MS = 5.00% Ed.D./Ph.D/JD = 6.00% (Percentage increase on base salary, paid monthly)

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS (Upon Offer of Employment)
Employment Verification: The Immigration Reform and Control Act requires that the District obtain documentation from every individual who is employed which verifies identity and authorizes his/her right to work in the United States.
Individuals selected for employment are required to submit to a tuberculosis risk assessment, and, if risk factors are identified, would then be required to submit to a tuberculosis examination to determine freedom from tuberculosis.
The District reserves the right to require a job related physical examination and satisfactory results from such an exam.
Fingerprinting: State law requires that all employees be fingerprinted. AB1610 prohibits employment until the Department of Justice completes its obligations regarding the arrest and conviction information, and from employing a person who has been convicted of a violent or serious felony, as defined.
All candidates with a conviction record for offenses other than minor traffic violations, must file a conviction record statement with their application. Such a conviction, or failure to report a record of convictions, may bar you from employment.
Other: Eligibles will be required to provide a current DMV report and/or proof of auto insurance to the Classified Human Resources Department before being certified for a final selection interview for positions that require the employee to drive a district vehicle and/or hold a valid California driver's license.
