JOB SUMMARY
The Director of Data Science and Compliance is responsible for managing a team of data analysts, data coordinators, data scientists, data visualization staff, and state compliance analysts working in tandem with Information Technology (IT), Information and Analytics, and Data Governance to oversee and support macro level data curation tasks, development of code books and methodology, and state and federal data submissions informed by best practices in educational data management. This role leads the EdFi transition in collaboration with IT, and continues to support advanced project planning for continuation post-transition. role requires a convergence of data and analytics skills, IT skills, and business expertise in both quantitative K-12 data reporting at the district, state, and federal level, including but not limited to TSDS reporting, accountability, Student Information Systems, Human Resources Information Systems, and interim, formative, and summative assessment data. This position reports directly to the Executive Director.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Directs cross-functional data sharing, data transformation, data visualization, data reporting and submissions, and data management initiatives as identified in collaboration with the Executive Director. Leads this team in their completion of ad hoc data requests used for district performance, student outcomes, and state and federal accountability performance.
Collaborates with District Department Leadership Teams to develop and implement state required mandates, processes, and procedures to ensure the adherence to state and local compliance measures.
Serves as district contact for Texas Education Agency as TSDS-PEIMS Coordinator and AskTED Coordinator, works as liaison between the district and agency to ensure state reportable records, Foundation School Payments, and Auditable Documentation is submitted in a timely manner.
Maintains, monitors, and evaluates process systems/programs on an ongoing basis to support campuses and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local guidelines are being meet. Implements planning to ensure PEIMS reporting compliance through zero fatal errors, no need to drop records from submission, and no programmatic errors in all reporting functions.
Coordinates data and analytics work in coordination with data science, assessment, data visualization staff, IT, academia, and practitioners.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUED
Works with data warehouses, data integration and data modeling to support business decisions, leveraging data to gain key insights into business opportunities.
Conducts complex data validation with a strong aptitude for pattern and data validation detection, using a variety of database management and statistical software
Supports the Academics team in data reporting across all functions, including data governance, student privacy, and approval of data sets shared with business partners in conjunction with IT.
Provide analytical and business support for analytics and BI activities.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; master's degree preferred
WORK EXPERIENCE
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a leadership role, preferably within a similar industry or organization.
