What we are looking for
SCS Engineers is looking for a Project Development Engineer (Energy Infrastructure) to join our Renewable Energy Division. The division focuses on renewable energy design/build/operate projects in the gas processing sector. SCS Energys projects, currently operating, or currently under design or construction, will remove more than 2,000,000 metric tons/year of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) in greenhouse gas emissions from the atmosphere. Our projects help a diversified client base achieve their energy goals by reducing their carbon footprint and creating useful by-products from waste material. We prefer you be based in Long Beach, CA but we are open to remote work.
The Project Development Engineer will be responsible for leading the development of energy projects from conception through to financial close. This role requires a strategic thinker with a strong background in the energy industry, particularly in alternative energy, who can manage complex projects and drive them to completion.
How you can make an impact
- Lead the development of energy projects, including RNG, Cogen, LNG, CCUS, Hydrogen, SAF and other renewable technologies from inception to
- Develop FEL-0, FEL-1 and FEL-2 deliverables and ensure project approval for these stage gates.
- Collaborate with vendors and procurement teams to specify equipment and assemble estimates for Engineering and EPC projects
- Assembly of technical proposals in response to client inquiries or RFPs
- Represent the business unit, department, or functional area on cross-functional project teams and act as a resource in resolving technical obstacles
- Conduct financial and commercial modeling to assess project viability for customers
- Assemble design documents, material requisitions, and specifications for construction or procurement use.
- Engage with stakeholders, including developers, suppliers, engineering subconsultants, and construction trades.
- Collaborate with finance and legal teams to ensure project compliance and risk management.
- Manage contract analysis, due diligence, and negotiations.
- Oversee proposal schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
- Ensure adherence to local, state, and federal regulations and standards.
- Create and maintain technical documentation including basis of Design, PFDs, Layouts, Equipment Lists, Schedules and other FEED documentation.
- Conduct product line presentations to potential clients virtually from the Office and in person.
- Collaborate with the business Development Manager to Develop Effective Sales strategies.
- Assemble competitor, industry and market profiles at the direction of the business Development Manager.
- Coordinate the assembly of marketing materials and brochures for the company product lines.
- Travel and participate in trade shows and industry presentations.
Qualifications
- Bachelors or masters degree in Engineering, Business, or related field;
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in project development within the energy sector.
- Proven experience in project development within the energy infrastructure sector.
- Proven track record of successfully developing and managing energy infrastructure projects.
- Strong technical aptitude and understanding of multi-disciplinary engineering principles
- Understanding of engineering economics and process optimization.
- Understanding of energy markets, financial modeling, and contract management is a plus
- Proficient in technical and commercial proposal writing
- Understanding of capital project estimating concepts
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Ability to travel to meet with clients and participate in industry events (20-percent).

Pay range for this position is $67k to $115k depending on experience and location. This does not include bonuses or our Employee Stock Ownership Plan.
