Role Summary
This position will primarily provide transactional, corporate, regulatory and other legal support for the day-to-day operations of Experian North America’s Business Information Solutions business area and Strategic Alliance functions, with the opportunity to expand to support other businesses and functions as necessary. Experian’s Business Information Solutions unit provides data, solutions, and insights about small businesses to help organizations make decisions about those businesses, from lending and credit risk to preventing fraud. Strategic Alliances focuses on Experian’s key commercial partnerships across business units.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
A minimum of 5-10 years of relevant legal experience in a large law firm and/or in-house setting.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment
The highest standards for thoroughness and diligence in handling legal matters
Experience in handling privacy matters for the financial services industry or other highly regulated industries
Ability to work with little supervision, check ego at the door, and be an active member of a congenial legal team and work well with non-legal professionals
Ability to understand complex business issues, develop practical, problem-solving strategies and effectively communicate in a positive manner
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities will include drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements, advising in risk assessment and regulatory reviews for new products, and providing advice on compliance with laws, including consumer protection and data privacy laws.
The successful candidate should have experience in complex transactional matters, with regulatory experience in financial services (e.g. FCRA, GLBA) preferred.
Most importantly, the successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to learn and adapt to the requirements of the role. This position will report to a senior attorney in the North America the Law Department.
Qualifications
6+ years of relevant legal experience in a large law firm and/or in-house setting
License to practice law
Excellent academic credentials and the highest standards for thoroughness and diligence in handling legal matters
Legal experience in relevant areas, including litigation, transactions, and regulatory compliance, product, and digital marketing counseling
Experience in handling matters for highly regulated industries
Ability to work with little supervision, and be an active member of a congenial legal team and work well with non-legal professionals
Thrive in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment
Ability to understand complex business issues, develop practical, problem-solving strategies and effectively communicate across different audiences in a positive manner
Ability to work on multiple high-visibility initiatives, understanding the details while at the same time being able to provide strategic legal advice on big picture items
Preferred
Experience with financial services and FinTech regulations and/or transactions
Specific experience in a regulatory and/or transactional practice relevant to FinTech and financial services
Hybrid role based in Costa Mesa, California preferred
