The Position
YOUTH PROGRAMS DIVISION - YAC
The Youth Activity Center (YAC) is looking for one highly motivated individual with strong leadership skills to coordinate lunchtime and after-school activities, supervise participants, staff, and contract workers, and interact with City and School officials. They will also create flyers for events, and plan monthly calendars and weekly schedules. Other duties include making purchases for daily programs and snack bars, administrative support, and coordinating special events for the YAC. Hours of work vary Monday – Friday 11:00 AM - 5:30 PM.
SPECIAL NEEDS AND INCLUSIVE PROGRAMMING
The Program Specialist assigned to Special Needs and Inclusive Programming will be responsible for the development and expansion of the Recreation and Human Services Department’s special needs programming. This individual will work collaboratively with other Divisions to identify opportunities for new or enhanced programming, plan and coordinate events for participants, develop and provide training for other Department staff, liaison with our Parents Working Group, and act as a subject matter expert for their program area. This position has the unique opportunity to further guide and grow this program area. Working hours for this position are Monday-Thursday, with some weekends, holidays, and evenings required.
RECREATION DIVISION – SPORTS, WADING POOLS, AND SUPPORT SERVICES
The Recreation Division is looking for one candidate to assist with a variety of duties and special projects and is perfect for a recreation professional looking to increase their knowledge of program administration while still performing work in the field. This position will oversee athletic field reservations, assist with the Youth Sports Committee, provide administrative support to the Division supervisor, perform clerical duties, monitor athletic facility usage, oversee the City’s 3 seasonal wading pools, and conduct off-site field work as needed. Working hours for this position are Monday-Thursday, with some weekends, holidays, and evenings required.
The Program Specialist is part-time and requires 25 hours per week of work. This position is not eligible for benefits. The Program Specialist will work special events and some weekends for Youth Programs. The mandatory special events all staff are required to work include: Village Venture – in October; Halloween Spooktacular – Saturday before Halloween; Holiday Promenade – First Friday in December; Spring Celebration – Saturday before Easter; 1k Kids Fun Run/5k Run/Walk – Saturday before July 4; 4th of July Celebration – July 4. In addition, Recreation and Human Service staff may be called upon to work for other special events throughout the year.
The individual holding this position is considered a mandated reporter under California’s Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (“CANRA”), Penal Code Section 11164-11174.3. As a mandated reporter, this individual is required to comply with the agency’s Policy on Mandated Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting.Ideal Candidate
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Qualified applicants will have a high school diploma (or equivalent), and two years of increasingly responsible experience in recreation, social or human services, or a related field. College coursework in social services, human services, social work, or a related field is highly desirable.
For individuals working in the Special Needs and Inclusive Programming section, paid, volunteer, or personal experience working with individuals with special needs is highly desirable
A valid California Driver's License, good driving record, and certification in First Aid and CPR are also required. Bilingual skills are highly desirable.
