Position Description: The Java Developer is responsible for providing development and sustainment for health software products.
Minimum/General Experience: 5 years of experience as a software developer or software engineer

Essential Skills/Qualifications:
- Excellent experience with Java
- Above average experience completing one or more full release project life cycles
- Above average experience with Java web applications using Spring MVC frameworks, JavaServer Faces (JSF), Struts, and/or Hibernate
- Strong knowledge of architecture styles and APIs, including SOAP, REST, RPC
- Strong experience with static code analysis and bug detection tools (e.g., HP Fortify, SonarQube)
- Strong understanding of modern software design and development methodologies (e.g., Agile, OO)
- Excellent ability to consistently apply quality and security standards
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong ability to work effectively in a team and with clients
- Above average analytical and organizational skills
- Understanding of testing tools and testing methodologies (preferred)
- Knowledge of containerization tools (e.g., Kubernetes or Docker) (preferred)
- Experience with ServiceNow (preferred)
- Experience with 508 testing tools and compliance requirements (preferred)
- Experience providing software development support to a federal agency (preferred)
- Experience in CMMI Maturity Level 3, ISO 9001:2015 or 9001:2001 (preferred)
- Experience in Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) (preferred)
- Experience with VA VistA and related tools (preferred)
- Knowledge of the Veteran-focused Integration Process (VIP) (preferred)
- Knowledge of the legacy Project Management Accountability System (PMAS) (preferred)

Tasks/activities include, but are not limited to:
- Follows VIP OI&T Delivery framework and overarching VA guidance (One-VA Technical Reference Model (TRM)
- Uses POLARIS calendaring tool, VIP Request (VIPR) portal, and ServiceNow
- Designs and codes application components in an Agile environment utilizing a test-driven development approach
- Designs solutions
- Provides development and support for application components or features
- Contributes to design activities
- Develops code independently
- Participates in code reviews and may lead code reviews
- Coordinates configuration and operation of application development
- Performs analysis and debugging
- Remediates security vulnerabilities
- Designs, prepares and executes unit tests
- Provides time/resource estimates for assigned tasks or projects
- Completes Sprint responsibilities timely and accurately, including assigned software development tasks
- Participates in client reviews, Scrum Meetings and Retrospectives
- Supports requirements vetting and facilitation
- Provides and reviews needed documentation changes
- Participates as a member of the development support team
- Works in a cross-functional team
- Provides mentoring to less senior developers
