Job Abstract

Responsibilities:

• Monitors and Develop Sale Tax audit defense strategies to reduce exposure and mitigate assessments.
• Researches prevailing sales tax law changes, court decisions, current accounting and auditing procedures as it relates to the Oil & Gas industry.
• Attend & Assist with presenting the company’s position in the appeals process & tax redetermination hearings.
• Provide trial balances, accounts of interest, data downloads and complete other requests received from State Auditor.
• Assist with scheduling, planning and performing sales tax compliance audits.
• Examines division records, prepare spreadsheets and provide documents to support exemption or refund.
• Interact with Legal Department & Division Controllers to retrieve purchase agreements, revenue/expense downloads & additional informative documents related to the Audit.
• Analyze data to ensure integrity & accuracy of the information received from the divisions.
• Understand Taxpayers’ right with respect to the audit and taxing jurisdiction statute of limitation.
• Assists with negotiating audit settlement offers & agreements.
• Report anomalies & provide audit findings to Tax Audit Manager
• Assist with addressing several key areas and approaches during initial audit conference.

Skill Requirement:

• Ability to identify the advantages and disadvantages of audit methodology when planning audits, i.e. Detail Review, Block or Statistical sampling.
• Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
• Analytical skills, verbal and written communication skills, initiative, teamwork and technical tax expertise.
• Ability to work as an individual and in a team oriented environment with a high level of integrity and professionalism.
• Must be proficient with Microsoft Excel and adept at using formulas like VLOOKUPs SUMIFS and tools like Pivot tables, Sorting, Filtering, and conditional formatting.
• Demonstrates excellent organizational skills and strong self-motivation.
• Ability to completed assign tasks by deadlines.

Preferred Education/Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree in accounting
• CMI preferred, or seeking designation
• 0- 5 plus years of experience with sales and use audit experience.
• Public Accounting experience preferred.
