The Straus Family Creamery Mission: To help sustain family dairy farms in Marin and Sonoma Counties by providing high quality, minimally processed organic dairy products. To support family farming and revitalize rural communities everywhere through advocacy and education.
Job Objective: Manage the consistent and efficient coordination and execution of all logistics and warehouse shipping, and receiving processes, and respective teams, through sustained leadership. Establishes priorities that ensure effective time sensitive warehouse operations utilizing knowledge of technology, industrial equipment, and DOT compliance. This position is the liaison between Straus and our distributors and vendors/providers and collaborates closely with other members of Operations Leadership to establish and implement processes, procedures, and standards that maximize profitability and achievement of Companywide goals, while also ensuring our commitment to sustainability, quality, and community support.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Directly supervise the warehouse, dock, and driver teams and ensure the consistent quality of their work
• Manage the shipping/distribution of perishable inventory and assure accuracy and quality are a top priority
• Coordinate loading/unloading of trucks for all deliveries, shipments, and product transfers between locations
• Ensure accuracy and timely processing of customer orders and the receiving of product from various suppliers by reviewing Purchase Orders (PO), Bills of Lading (BOL) and Work Orders
• Oversee preparation and submission of daily/weekly logistics and distribution paperwork for verification of transfer orders, review all incoming transfer orders for accuracy, and any/all requisite activity reports required by Ops Leadership
• Responsible for the protection of finished goods inventory assets of the Company and control of all inbound and outbound deliveries to against product loss and shrinkage
• Manage and maintain accurate cycle count program and monthly physical inventory counts of materials and finished product monitoring for consistent adherence to FIFO SOP for rotation; conduct regular partial physical inventory audits to verify accuracy of existing data; oversee proper disposal of surplus material or scrap products
• Ensure all refrigerator and freezer temperature logs are consistently managed and maintained
• Responsible for ensuring that the warehouse, shipping and receiving, refrigerated and freezer areas are kept clean and free of hazards, and are working properly, reporting any issues immediately
• Manage the warehouse and logistics operations budget
• Effectively communicate any issues, setbacks, or continuing events to stakeholders and/or pertinent department heads as well as to direct reports (warehouse supervisors and associates)
• Work closely with Quality Team to develop, facilitate and maintain the plant and warehouse HACCP program and all quality assurance processes and procedures related to warehousing, distribution, and transportation
• Comply with Federal, State, and local regulations by studying existing and new regulations; anticipating regulations; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on necessary actions
• Monitor and control rest and meal/lunch period compliance for all direct reports
• Operate varied warehouse equipment including, but not limited to power and manual pallet jacks, electric and propane forklifts, REACH lift, baler, and shrink wrapper, fridges/coolers; oversee maintenance of said equipment
Training and Development/Safety
• Oversee training and development of warehouse supervisors, associates, and new temp or direct hires, guiding them with a positive disposition and personal high-quality work ethic
• Responsible for performance management and annual performance evaluation process for all direct reports
• Ensure robust and effective logistics, safety, security, and regulatory employee training programs are maintained and provide coaching, education and training of all SOPs and regulatory compliance procedures for direct reports
• Must work with direct manager and/or Safety Manager, and/or P & C team to help identify and coordinate timely compliance, policy, process, and safety training needs
• Stay current on industry knowledge studying trends/developments in transportation management, networking, participating in professional organizations, and reading industry publications
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in business or logistics management, preferred
• 5 years’ managerial experience in logistics and warehouse operations, required
• Perishable food or dairy production and/or manufacturing, a plus
• Strong supply chain project management experience, required
• Proficient experience with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and Business Central (ERP), required
• Proficient Microsoft Outlook and Excel, Navision ERP, and HRIS software programs, required
• Proficient business math to verify accurate counting and tracking of inventories and readily measure or convert measurements in volume and weight, required
• Bilingual – English, required; Spanish, preferred but not required
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills to enhance collaboration and build strong partnerships with cross-functional team, customers, dairy partners, vendors, inspectors, auditors, and certifying agencies, required
