Job Abstract

The Patient Financial Counselor must display excellent communication skills and display a strong attention to detail. This individual will be responsible for verifying demographic information as well as insurance eligibility and educating patients, patient families or caregivers on their financial responsibilities. They will review insurance plan coverage, process estimates for services, collect payments and assist patients with applications for financial assistance offering payment options. They work collaboratively with the Cashier to assist with patient inquiries and must understand accounting functions. Hospital Financial Counseling experience preferred, must display compassion with the ability to build rapport with patients and patient families.

Requirements
Completion of High school diploma or equivalent and two (2) years’ experience and relevant knowledge of revenue cycle and banking functions preferred. Understanding of health insurance and government programs, billing processes, managed care contracts, coordination of benefits with ability to interpret explanation of benefits. Knowledge of office practices and procedures, medical terminology and the ability to communicate effectively. Must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
