About FirstLine Schools
In 1998, FirstLine Schools started the first charter school in New Orleans. FirstLine now operates four PreK-8th grade schools. Our mission is to create and inspire great open, admissions public schools in New Orleans.

Position Summary:
FirstLine Schools is currently looking for talented, passionate AmeriCorps Library Assistants at our K-8 schools. Library Assistants work with the School Libraries Content Lead and school staff to provide library and information services to administrators, teachers, and students. Library Assistants support schools in delivering library related skills to students and teachers; collaborate with staff on integrating library support in classrooms; and manage resources to provide physical and intellectual access to information.
Position Responsibilities:
As such key responsibilities for Library Assistants include the following:
Support reading and information literacy related activities to foster a joyful culture of reading
Tutoring struggling readers to access grade level texts
Support a Book Fair twice annually including motivating scholars, setting fundraising goals, and communicating with families
Create and display themed library exhibits and bulletin boards
Ensure all students have access to library checkouts, including but not limited to utilizing mobile carts to reach large groups
Organize and maintain an attractive library media center
Support in providing access to a diverse collection of resources that meet site related goals and the changing needs and interests of students and staff
Participate in library education professional development sessions
Be on time and active for school duty posts (recess, lunch, etc.)
Attend school morning meetings, professional development sessions, and support school-based initiatives
Participate in all applicable Professional Development sessions and trainings
Requirements
Education & Experience:
A High School Diploma
Experience working with students from open admissions charter schools (or similar public schools)
