The College of Business Administration at California State University San Marcos seeks a part-time lecturer(s) for Fall 2024 to teach Business 300: Business Professional Development, one of our Signature Programs. This required 2-unit course enhances students’ professional skills by teaching interactive lessons pertaining to career exploration, soft skill development (AKA employability skills), and job search strategies. There are multiple sections available for this course which meets for one 2-hour session per week and may require virtual instruction as needed. Candidates must be comfortable with virtual conferencing tools such as Zoom or Teams.
This position requires facilitation skills that aim to increase our students’ career confidence. The candidate should be professionally engaged for at least the past 8 years and have knowledge of industry trends for career development practices. Salary is commensurate with credential and experience.
This course is unlike other career development courses in that we incorporate executive coaching into the classroom requirements. Executive in Residences (EIR) Coaches work alongside instructors to ensure that students meet the required coaching requirements and self-reflective assignments. Recognizing that EIR coaches are volunteers, candidates should be able to foster a team environment with assigned coaches and ensure timely and frequent communication.
Course Description:
Develops students as business professionals. Focuses on identifying career options that align with interests, values, and skills, as it relates to pursuing a position in one’s desired field. Emphasizes professional and effective interactions with others. Culminates with an Individual Development Plan to help students clarify short- and long-term career goals and create an action plan to reach those goals. Pre-business core courses may be taken simultaneously with BUS 300.
Minimum qualifications:
- A?bachelor's degree in the area of instruction or a closely related field?
- Experience in management and recruiting, and/or career development experience
- Ability to facilitate large group discussions and/or experience in teaching or conducting workshops
- Proficiency in using technology including but not limited to video conferencing (e.g., Zoom, Teams), Microsoft Office (PPT), LinkedIn
- Willingness to adapt and be engaged in continuous learning and development
- Per the California State University’s Out-of-State Employment Policy, the CSU is prohibited from hiring employees to perform CSU-related work outside California. Working in the State of California is a condition of employment
Preferred qualifications:
- A master's, or terminal, degree in the area of instruction or a closely related field.
- Professionally engaged through professional association affiliations and/or consulting services
- Familiarity with recent trends in teaching including immersive learning and flipped classroom models.
- Experience using course management software and group facilitation
- Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusivity, and/or intercultural competence with diverse groups in relation to teaching
Salary commensurate with degree level and experience
- Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $5,007 - $6,359 per full-time month
- CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,007 - $6,359 per full-time month
