Speech and Language Pathologist
Description of Position: Under the direction of the Director of Support Services or Administrative Designee; screen, assess, identify, and support preschool, elementary and/or middle school level students with communication disorders which adversely affect their educational progress.
Major duties and Responsibilities: Develop and provide direct and indirect services within the student's educational setting, based on established IEP goals and objectives; plan, develop, organize and assist in the operation of comprehensive individualized educational program for students with Speech and Language disabilities; assist instructional personnel responsible for students with disabilities in making an appropriate adjustment to an speech and language services requiring an increased level of independence; perform other related functions as required. Supports District in improving outcomes for students in identified subgroups, particularly those with disabilities. Under supervision, provides expertise and assistance directly to teachers in instructional support for the purpose of improving instruction for students in identified subgroups, especially those with exceptional needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Complete initial evaluations, additional assessments and Triennial evaluations within district, state and federal guidelines and develop legally compliant assessment reports and IEP’s.
Utilize comprehensive assessment results in developing appropriate IEP goals and objectives to accommodate the wide variety of individual needs of each student.
Participate as a member (Case Manager for speech only students) of the IEP team to develop IEP goals, objectives, adaptations, accommodations, modifications and instructional plans; implement and monitor the IEP, at least annually.
Develop services and therapy to meet individual speech and language needs of the students consistent with the IEP.
Track, monitor, and manage speech and language progress toward goals.
Maintain service logs and documentation of service(s).
Manage and maintain all Individual Education Plan (IEP) documentation (for each student) in a Special Education Information System.
Serve as case manager and/or service provider for referred and/or placed students receiving speech and language services; communicating and providing a progress report per grading period to parents regarding student progress on IEP goals.
Review goals and objectives and make recommendations for changes as appropriate; to the IEP Team.
Provide diagnostic, therapeutic and consulting services for children with communication disorders.
Employ instructional/therapeutic methods and materials that are appropriate for meeting each student's goals and objectives.
Demonstrate effective classroom management, employing a variety of behavior management strategies and techniques, including behavior modification, reinforcement and other positive behavior shaping techniques.
Assess, select and develop augmentative and/or alternative communication systems and provide training in their use.
Collaborate and support general education teachers supporting speech and language progress toward goals and objectives.
Provide direction, materials, and support to Special Education aides assisting in speech and language progress toward students’ goals and objectives.
Assist in development of classroom activities to meet the communication needs of the students as deemed appropriate in the IEP.
Assure compliance with established state and federal laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Maintain knowledge of instructional and technological advances and other matters concerning speech-language therapy.
Perform other duties as assigned

Certificates / Licenses:
Valid Speech-Language Pathology Services Credential from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing in Language, Speech and Hearing is required
Ability to supervise clinical practicum hours of candidates in Speech-Language credential programs
Ability to supervise SLPAs
Other:
Possession of a valid California driver’s license and able to provide own transportation in conduct of work assignment, TB test clearance, and Fingerprint clearance.
