Vuori is seeking an Art Director, overseeing creative signage, photography and window displays for our Retail & Wholesale channels. This position requires strong graphic design skills, retail design experience, and 3+ years directing a team of graphic designers. Experience designing retail signage and collateral, in-store POP, window displays, retail packaging, and wholesale retail communications is required for this position. This position reports to the Creative Director and works closely with the Retail Marketing Manager and Visual Merchandising teams.
This role is an important leadership role on the Vuori creative team. The right candidate will lead all in-store graphic design projects and photography selection for the retail and wholesale channels, and manage junior designers, guiding and mentoring them to support their development. The Art Director – Retail & Wholesale will partner with the Creative Director, Director of VM and Retail Marketing Manager to direct inspiring creative work, and outstanding visual communicators for our Vuori customers. This person will work alongside retail marketing teammates, and will consider the Vuori customer’s experience and Vuori Brand when approaching all projects.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Oversee the development of retail store signage and wholesale POP.
• Oversee and direct the design and placement of large scale imagery in store, pop-up shops, and wholesale events.
• Mentor and direct the junior team members to encourage their growth. Encourage the team to continuously improve the in-store experience so that it is best in class and relevant for the Vuori customer.
• Work with the Creative Director, Director of VM and cross functional teams to develop the visual direction, and ensure this vision is executed across all retail and wholesale customer experiences.
• Work with the Creative Director and Director of VM to concept store window graphics that align with Vuori’s seasonal Go-To-Market campaigns. Ensure windows are executed within budget and with appropriate materials for a variety of store types.
• Develop packaging and in-store POP displays in collaboration with the VM and Store teams. (Some packaging projects may be independent of store-specific environments).
• Oversee the design of product packaging and hangtags, working cross functionally to align with merchandise and visual merchandising teams. Mange junior team members and oversee creation of mechanical print files and die-lines.
• Manage all creative related tasks with-external agencies and creatives: visual merchandisers, retail designers, fixture and print vendors
• Review project work for highest standards of quality, consistency and success
• Bachelor's degree or higher or combination of relevant education, experience and training
• 7+ years professional experience in a design agency, in-house firm, brand or similar in the fashion industry
• 3+ years professional experience directing a creative team in a fast-paced retail environment
• Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Acrobat
• Experience working cross-functionally and managing a team of designers
• Outstanding knowledge and expertise in all aspects of layout, typography, illustration, imagery, and retail design.
• Ability to create exceptional customer experience in retail, wholesale and event environments
• Exceptional communication skills, patience and professionalism when partnering with cross-functional teams
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and architectural floor plans and the ability to create documents and drawings for outside vendors
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects simultaneously
• Understanding of retail fixturing and visual merchandising
• Expertise in large format printing and print file preparation
• Understanding of retail in-store construction and fabrication
• Strong time management with ability to toggle between daily and long-term tasks, keeping workstreams moving forward simultaneously
• Excellent verbal and visual communication skills; adept at communicating and explaining creative work
• Proactive approach to identifying and acting on ways to improve the work, continually pushing the vision forward
Pay Range: $140,000-$165,000/yr
