CCAC matches Fellows with organizations to mobilize community members to take direct climate action through education, volunteer mobilization, and assessment focused on urban greening, organic waste diversion, edible food recovery, and wildfire resiliency. This is a climate-focused, workforce development program for emerging climate and environmental leaders.Opportunity descriptionSaticoy Food Hub operates the Saticoy Farmer's Market, Saticoy Community Fridge, and Saticoy Sowers with a mission to combat food apartheid, providing equitable opportunities for food producers and fresh, local food access. We seek to engage community-based volunteers to boost local food production, reduce waste, and empower the predominantly Latinx community, many of whom rely on food assistance. The Farmer's Market encourages backyard producers to enhance soil health and agricultural-based greening, collectively increase food production in backyards and community gardens, with surplus produce diverted to the Saticoy Community Fridge. Saticoy Sowers is a regenerative agriculture and backyard producer incubator program rooted in co-design and ancestral practices. Our alumni have shared that they deeply value Saticoy Food Hub's strongly rooted connections to the community. It was started by Saticoy residents to support their neighbors. Join us in creating a more equitable, sustainable, and resilient food system. Fellows play a crucial role in expanding Saticoy Food Hub's programming.Duties include, but are not limited to:- Engage community volunteers through education and co-design practices to increase operational capacity, locally produced food, and community empowerment.- Enhance food-producing green spaces, implementing regenerative agricultural practices through the expansion of community producers.- Assist in the expansion of our community compost program.- Educate the community on regenerative agricultural practices, such as composting, soil health, and pest management.- Expand food donations to Saticoy Community Fridge through cultivating partnerships, gleaning, and collaborating with local farmers.Benefits- $33,600 stipend- $10,000 education award- 340 hours of professional development- Minimum essential healthcare- Loan forbearance- Food and childcare assistance (for those eligible)Requirements and qualifications- Requirements:- Live in California by August 16, 2024.- Must be age 18 or older by August 16, 2024.- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.- Must be a US Citizen, US National, or lawful US resident to participate.- Preferred qualifications:- An interest in climate change mitigation, volunteerism, or public service.- Experience with outreach, education, training, or community behavior change.- Fundamental understanding of climate change science, environmental policies in California, and/or environmental priorities.- Excellent organizational, writing, interpersonal, and speaking skills.
