As part of the Technical Art team, you will work closely with Artists across all studios to ensure they can efficiently create and refine art to the highest standard expected for our titles. This is a full-time, in-office position based out of Rockstar’s new state-of-the-art game development studio in Carlsbad, CA.
WHAT WE DO
- We bring innovation and resolution to technical problems and challenges throughout Art production - from content creation through to the.
- We create and maintain tools that improve our Art creation/editing workflows.
- Provide general support for Art teams by documenting and sharing solutions and knowledge with the wider team.
- Proactively use knowledge and experience to identify and solve problems before they affect the Art team.
- Work closely with fellow Technical Artists as part of a wider global team working on interconnected tools and systems.
- Collaborate and communicate with other departments (aside from the Art and Rigging department) such as Core/Runtime Tools and Engine teams.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- This is a Technical Artist position with a Dynamic Art specialism. This means the tasks, while varied, will relate mainly to Dynamic Art (Character, Props, Terrain, Vehicles, Vegetation, Materials).
- Create and develop tools to help author and manage high quality art in large open worlds.
- Write standalone tools in C# to help glue the various packages and in-house tooling together into a cohesive pipeline across multiple art departments.
- Work with artists to document new workflows established.
- Set up automated processes/scripts to propagate changes across many assets.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of applicable professional experience as a technical artist, or similar / related position, with knowledge of engines and art pipelines.
- Shipped AAA title(s) across multiple platforms.
- An online portfolio showing relevant examples of your work.
SKILLS
- Advanced knowledge of C# (WPF, MVVM).
- Experience working with XML/Json.
- Experience developing pipelines integrated with commercial or proprietary game engines.
- Attention to detail with UI/UX design and implementation.
- Relevant experience using 3ds Max or Maya in a technical art, or similar, role.
- Familiarity working and developing in a multi-platform, multi-project environment.
- Demonstrates creativity and technical ability within the constraints or console development.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Effective time management skills to meet deadlines without sacrificing quality.
PLUSES
Please note that these are desirable skills and are not required to apply for the position.
- Experience in other scripting and programming languages (Python, C++, Maxscript, Javascript, etc.)
- Understanding in developing pipelines and creating efficient user interfaces.
- Knowledge of source control, such as Perforce or GIT, and working on code base collaboratively.

The pay range for this position in San Diego at the start of employment is expected to be between the range below* per year. However, base pay offered is based on market location, and may vary further depending on individualized factors for job candidates, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to those same considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a bonus and/or equity awards, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
