Job Title: Community School Health Assistant Salary Level: $23-26/hour

Position Summary:
The CSHA, under the supervision of the CAP Assistant Director and the School District Nurse, assists with the implementation of the school health program, by providing delegated nursing services, including health screening, assisting with administration of medications, basic first aid procedures, maintenance of student health records, student and staff health education trainings and maintenance of a clean and orderly health rooms. Duties also include, under the guidance of the school nurse and district, maintaining and updating program policies and procedures, timelines, and data entry. The CSHA acts as a liaison between students, parents and school staff in promoting optimal health and healthy behaviors to support children’s capacity for learning and success in school.
Job Responsibilities:
- Review incoming student health information to include any health plan and immunization needs for grades Pre-school -grade 12.
- Assess and verify immunization status of current students.
- Provide required school health screenings(vision, hearing, dental)
- Monitor students with special health care needs; consult with school nurse and medical providers as needed to recommend interventions and modifications to educational programs; train staff, counsel and refer parents and/or guardians as needed.
- Under the direction of the school nurse, monitor student medication, treatment and inventory.
- Provides health related resources and referrals, as necessary. Works with school and district personnel to ensure that home health needs are met
- May be required to perform specialized procedures, after proper training, such as:
* gastric tube feedings
* urinary catheterization
* diabetes management,
* and seizure disorder management
- Facilitates sending ill or injured students home or to appropriate facilities
- Provide Health and/or Wellness checks to student homes as needed or requested by Principal or CST staff.
- Provides annual or as needed training of school staff on Medication Administration, Basic First Aid, AED, Epinephrine Pen medication delivery, and Seizure care.
- Attend agency, district and school site's staff meetings, CST meetings and/or other committee meetings as necessary.
- Provide lessons in family life and human development appropriate to grade level.
- May accompany students to field trips, school camp, athletic events, including after-school hour events, and meet the health needs of students under somewhat primitive conditions.
- Maintains a clean, organized health office, including supply and medication inventory.
- Maintain accurate and current student health records, including confidential list of students with health concerns.
- Maintains school district and CAP agency databases
- Provides data for annual State report
- Performs other related duties as assigned

Education and/or Experience:
- Bilingual in English and Spanish both written and oral strongly preferred.
- Certified Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant or Licensed Vocational Nurse certificate required.
- Valid certification in CPR, First AID and AED
- Audiometrist and/or other screening certifications or ability to obtain
- High school Diploma or equivalency
- Previous public health or school health work recommended.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality in compliance with HIPPA training.
- 2-4 years of relevant experience
- Strong organization, time management, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to culturally diverse groups and persons from low-income families.
In addition to the above:
- Valid California driver’s license and a properly insured vehicle for use on the job
- Prior to beginning work, must be able to pass the background check DOJ
- Current TB clearance
- MMR, Tdap, Influenza and COVID 19 vaccinations required.
Computer Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft software programs (i.e., Excel , Word and Powerpoint) and Internet usage.
- Understanding of collaboration platforms such as Google Documents and Google Drive
Physical Requirements:
