Job Overview:
Under general supervision, prepares all tissue specimens for examination by the pathologists. This includes grossing, embedding, cutting, staining, and coverslipping. Prepares Gyn and Non-Gyn cytology specimens.
Qualifications:
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.

Scheduling Requirements:
Essential Functions:
- Assists Pathologists with gross examination of specimens.
- Identifies problems that may adversely affect specimen integrity or departmental operations and immediately corrects the problem or notifies appropriate Supervisor.
- Keeps the work area clean and well organized.
- Maintains daily records of temperatures, solution changes
- Performs all other duties as required
- Prepares routine and special staining solutions and stains all slides
- Preps, processes and stains cytology specimens for Pathologist examination
- Transports, receives and accessions human tissue or other Pathology specimens after verifying identity on requisition and specimen container.
- Safely disposes of potentially toxic chemicals used in processing or staining.
- Utilizes computer system fully to order, result & monitor departmentactivities.
- Utilizes CoPath Pathology Network for all processes involving daily workload recording, accessioning cases inquiry.
- Utilizes tissue processor and embeds specimens.
- Prepares and processes frozen section for rapid diagnosis
- Maintains order of blocks, slides, paperwork and requests.
- Coverslips and labels slides accurately.
- Cuts finished paraffin block on rotary microtome to obtain thin section mounted on a slide.
