Job Summary
The Athletic Trainer plays a critical role in enhancing our Department of Health Services & Sports Medicine’s capabilities, focusing on injury prevention, wellness promotion, and delivering superior health care during practices and competitive events. This position directly contributes to the educational experience of students in the medicine science program and elevates the standard of health care on campus, ensuring optimal support and care for our athletes.
Ideal Candidate Will Possess:
- Apply advanced knowledge in medicine, therapy, and counseling to assess, diagnose, and treat student athletes.
- Communicate complex medical information clearly and effectively to athletes, parents, coaches, and healthcare professionals, creating a collaborative and supportive environment.
- Demonstrate proficiency in technical skills, including equipment maintenance, operation, and technology design, to ensure the optimal functioning of medical tools and software.
- Diagnose and design effective treatment and rehabilitation programs for sports-related injuries, leveraging in-depth knowledge of athletic health care protocols and best practices.
- Employ exceptional social skills, including coordination, negotiation, and interpersonal communication, to effectively collaborate with team members and educate athletes and staff.
- Manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously with exceptional organizational and time-management skills, including documentation, safety inspections, and educational initiatives on injury prevention.
- Perform the physical demands of the job with stamina and strength, using manual dexterity to provide first aid, operate medical equipment, and respond swiftly to on-field emergencies, supported by manual dexterity.
- Solve complex problems, assess patients and make informed decisions under pressure, ensuring the safety and well-being of patients.
- Utilize comprehensive understanding of customer and personal service to enhance patient care and service orientation.
Requirements
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training or related field; Master’s preferred.
- 1 to less than 3 years of experience in athletic training.
- Certified by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (NATABOC). (Required)
- Possession of National Provider Identifier (NPI) Number. (Required)
- Certification in CPR/Emergency Cardiac Care and Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Proficiency in medical software (e.g., Blackbaud, Home Campus), Google Suite, and Microsoft Office.

The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range.
