LAND USE TECHNICIAN III

THIS POSITION IS ELIGIBLE FOR APPOINTMENT AT STEP 1, $75,920.00 ANNUALLY. County employees are subject to the County Promotion Rule for Step Placement.
THE DEPARTMENT:
Through operational excellence and attention to customer service, Planning & Development Services (PDS) strives to balance community, economic and environmental interests to ensure the highest quality of life for the public of San Diego County.
PDS is responsible for long range land use planning, including the County's General Plan, community plans, and Zoning Ordinance, which determine how our communities will grow. The department analyzes privately initiated land use projects to ensure compliance with land use regulations and advises the Board of Supervisors and Planning Commission on the projects. PDS programs include building plan review, building inspection, and code compliance; these departmental programs help maintain public health and safety. THE POSITION:
Land Use Technician III employees perform the most complex, difficult and sensitive assignments, at the building or zoning counter and provide technical guidance to lower-level technicians, land use aides and division clerks; and perform related work as required. HIRING TIMELINE & DATES:- Job Offer and Background Process begins in September 2024. Note: Current County employees may be excluded from additional background screening.
- Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.
- Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Four (4) years of full time paid technical experience in the areas of land use, architecture, zoning, planning, building inspection, surveying, construction, engineering, environmental studies, or a closely related field.
Notes: The successful completion of two (2) years or 50 units of coursework offered by an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency in urban planning, geography, building inspection, construction technology, environmental studies, engineering, mathematics, or a closely related field can be used to substitute for two (2) years of the experience requirement listed above.

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:
As part of the County of San Diego's pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Current County employees may be excluded from this process. EVALUATION PROCESS:
The names of qualified applicants will be placed on a six (6) month employment list based on scores received during the evaluation of information contained in their employment and supplemental applications.
