The Akron Board of Education announces an opening for a Career-Based Intervention (CBI) Instructor, Job Code 006, Time Schedule 380 (190 Days), Salary TBD. Extended time may be required before and/or after the school year for this position which would be compensated at the hourly extended time rate. Collective Bargaining Unit-AEA. This is a State Teachers Retirement System position.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
Currently hold a CBI Endorsement;or
Be able to obtain the CBI Endorsement by having:
Bachelor’s Degree; and
Verify two years of satisfactory teaching experience under a professional teaching certificate; and
Verify at least one year of full-time work experience outside of education.
For those not currently holding the required endorsement, the Career and Technical Education Qualification Evaluation Form (CTE-36) must be completed to document requirements prior to enrollment in a CBI Endorsement program. This form is available from College and Career Services, 330-761-3130;
A Teacher Eligibility and Education Verification Form (CTE-37) must be completed; and
Those not currently certified must be eligible to enroll in a CBI Endorsement program at an approved university and successfully complete 6 credits the first year of the program within one year of employment.
Desired:
A commitment to annually updating educational and trade skills relating to this Workforce Development Job Training program;
A commitment to working with students, professionals and community members in a multi-cultural setting;
Knowledge of computer hardware and software applications;
Current Akron Public Schools employment desirable, but not required.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Design a program that focuses (exclusively or in any combination) upon intervention or work-based learning to foster student success while instruction is given in the academic area and in the Content Standards and Quality Program Standards from the Ohio Department of Education;
Recruit students, secure community partnerships, market program successes, plan in-service, participate in group activities and take part in action research when appropriate for the program;
Assist in the development of the curriculum outline, guides and graded course of study using the appropriate standards for the program in accordance with guidelines of the Ohio Department of Education;
Provide intervention support for students;
Plan, instruct, and manage required student occupational opportunities through school-based learning, work-based learning, and connective activities. Examples include, but are not limited to, classroom instruction, speakers’ bureau, field experiences, shadowing, early job placement;
Maintain a complete file of all necessary work permits, student identification material, early-job placement material which includes, but is not limited to, permission slips, training agreements, training plans, parent-student agreement, and documentation of employment supervision;
Complete necessary reports, forms, and accounting procedures required by the building principal, Director, College and Career Services, and the Treasurer;
Participate in the Career Education Individual Professional Development Plan (IPDP), as mandated by the State Department, including continuous industry technical updating and local and state educational in-service by working with the Local Professional Development Committee (LPDC
Maintain an inventory of supplies and equipment in the laboratory;
Promote and participate in local, state, and national youth leadership activities;
Assist in developing, maintaining, and modifying the student’s Individual Career Plan;
Provide each student with a listing of occupational skills acquired at the conclusion of the training program;
Work to improve student outcomes and test scores whenever possible;
Keep in close contact with the home through phone calls, visits, parent/teacher conferences, report card pickup, and written communications;
Teach job-related success and employability skills to the CBI class, and academic skills, if assigned;
Perform other duties as assigned.
