Job Abstract

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
Under general supervision, plans school bus routes and maintains information concerning routes and stop locations for regular education students and for special education/needs students. The work of this position also involves: maintaining data in the computer assisted routing software to include routes, equipment, employee and student information; taking corrective action on bus routes and seeking assistance from the Regional Router for special circumstances.

CERTIFICATE LICENSE:
Possession of a valid Maryland State Noncommercial Class C driver's license (or equivalent).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
Working knowledge of the local street and road system. General routing strategies; knowledge of Windows operating system and Microsoft Office software. Ability to utilize computer assisted routing software. Ability to plan and implement efficient routes. Ability to pass the MCPS DOT Routing Skills Assessment. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).

EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE:
High School or GED diploma required. Associates degree preferred. Training and/or experience in computer operations or networked personal computers. Experience as a successful bus operator or attendant and experience with computerized database applications and transportation policies and procedures desired. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
