The Asia Foundation is a nonprofit international development organization committed to improving lives and expanding opportunities across Asia and the Pacific. Informed by 70 years of experience and deep local knowledge, our work is focused on governance, climate action, gender equality, education and leadership, inclusive growth, and international cooperation. We work in more than 20 countries through our 17 permanent country offices and programs across Asia and the Pacific, supported by a headquarters in San Francisco and an office in Washington, DC. Our funding comes from a diverse array of bilateral and multilateral development agencies, foundations, corporations, and individuals.
The Foundation is seeking a talented Senior Editor and Writer to join our San Francisco-based Communications team. Reporting to the Chief Communications Officer and engaging with a variety of Asia, Pacific, and U.S.-based teams, the Senior Editor and Writer will support the Foundation’s production of a wide array of external communications products. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional writing and editing skills, an understanding of international development and/or related issues, and a passion for driving positive change in the Asia-Pacific region.
Key Responsibilities:
- Written Content Development: Write and edit high-quality content about Asia Foundation programs and activities for a variety of external audiences, drawing on the Foundation staff’s expertise and inputs. The content will include thought leadership reports, institutional publications, articles, and short-form content for our website and social media platforms.
- Strategic Communication: Contribute to the development and implementation of communication strategies to effectively convey key messages about Asia Foundation programs and initiatives.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with country offices, program teams, the Washington, D.C. office, fundraising teams, and the Office of the President to ensure relevance, accuracy, and coherence of content.
- Editing: Edit content to ensure clarity, consistency, and adherence to organizational style guidelines and communications best practices.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, international relations, development studies, or a related field. Master’s degree is a plus.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in writing, editing, and communications.
- Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas in a clear and compelling manner.
- Demonstrated experience writing and editing published material in English.
- A solid understanding of international development, international relations, or related issues, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region.
- Fluency in English. Proficiency in additional languages spoken in the Asia-Pacific region is a plus.
- Experience with multimedia content creation is desirable.
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural and multidisciplinary team environment.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Compensation ranges from $93,402 to $116,752 annually.
