Posting Summary	Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Deaccessioning Assistant for the Zimmerli Art Museum. Works closely with the registration and curatorial department to catalogue, photograph, and review artwork for deaccession from the Jersey City Museum Collection and the permanent collection of the Zimmerli Art Museum. Conducts object research within the collection and facilitate research with curators and if needed outside consultants. Takes general notes on condition issues. Prepares spreadsheets for review and takes notes on all decisions. Takes ID photographs of all objects for review. Schedules in-person object review meetings. Works with the Registrar to handle and pack any objects leaving the building once deaccessioned for disposal. Works with the Registrar on necessary receipts and paperwork documenting deaccessioned objects.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience	Bachelor’s degree in fine arts, museum studies or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and/or related experience. Two (2) years of museum, registration, or collection experience.
Certifications/Licenses
Preferred Qualifications	Willingness to work collaboratively and seek additional professional opinions when needed. 3 years of museum, registration, or collection experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities	Experience in the proper handling of artworks. General knowledge of registration and deaccessioning policies and procedures. Ability to work independently and in a timely manner. Strong attention to detail. Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining professional standards. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Basic knowledge of Collections Databases systems (TMS preferred.)
Equipment Utilized	Laptop, computer and other standard office equipment.
Physical Demands and Work Environment	Must be able to stand for most of the workday. Some lifting required.
Special Conditions	This is a 1-year position.
