EXAMPLES OF DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS
The listed tasks are essential for this position and may include but are not limited to the following:
Supervising crews of maintenance personnel, including assigning, monitoring and assessing work
Performing skilled tasks in the maintenance of streets, parks, wastewater/storm drain, building and harbor/pier facilities
Prioritizing job requests for maintenance services
Scheduling daily activities of other maintenance workers
Utilizing computer software programs to maintain records of maintenance activities
Ordering needed materials and following City purchasing procedures and policies
Developing cost estimates for proposed maintenance projects
Maintaining records of departmental projects and associated billing paperwork
Ensuring daily project progress reports and time sheets are properly prepared and routed
Maintaining warehouse equipment stock levels
Providing operating cost and expenditure information to supervisors for use in budget preparation
Following and advising maintenance workers on proper environmental and work safety procedures, methods and techniques
Providing insight to supervisors regarding the performance of employees and work crews
Ensuring compliance with applicable building codes and regulations
Delivering outstanding internal and external customer service while solving problems and proactively creating sustainable solutions to issues
Supporting the City's mission, goals, policies and objectives
Providing initiative in achieving positive and timely results for the organization

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
QUALIFICATIONS:
This position requires knowledge of materials, equipment, regulations, principles, procedures and/or practices necessary to perform required maintenance duties; basic supervisory principles and practices; construction tools and materials, computer software programs; accepted safety standards, protocols and approved methods of construction activities; applicable building codes and ordinances; basic principles of maintenance work.
This position requires the ability to supervise crews of maintenance personnel; prepare reports, keep accurate and comprehensive records; perform skilled maintenance work; apply sound inspection methods to examine workmanship and materials and to detect deviations from plans, specifications, and standard installation practices; read and interpret diagrams, plans, and specifications; maintain cooperative working relationships with builders, contractors, and the general public.
This position requires graduation from high school or equivalent and two years of diversified experience at the service maintenance or skilled craft level that provides the knowledge and ability necessary to perform required duties.
Possession of a valid Class C California Driver License is required. Class B Driver License may be required.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
CLASSIFICATION:
This position is designated as Classified and is covered under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) overtime regulations.
