Definition
The Recreation and Parks Forestry section is looking to train new Forestry Technicians as we expand our section. These positions will work closely with staff, learning and growing in the field.
Under immediate supervision, is responsible for learningtoprune trees on and remove trees from City property; performs related duties as required.
Examples of Work

Learns to prune and remove trees using chain saws and pole saws;
Learns to climb trees using ropes and saddle to reach limbs to prune or remove;
Assists in operating machinery such as chipper, log loader, and stump grinder;
Learns to maintain equipment by checking fluid levels, greasing parts, and sharpening or replacing chainsaw and chipper blades;
Learns to perform safety inspections on ropes, saddles, chain saws, and other equipment;
Assists with planting and maintaining trees on City property;
Follows prescribed safety rules at all times;
Cleans worksite of debris upon job completion using rakes, brooms, and shovels;
Drives trucks to and from worksite;
Learns how to utilize hand-held GPS equipment to document and transmit the coordinates of tree locations;
May assist with emergency storm response on a twenty-four hour basis.
Minimum Qualifications
Six (6) months of experience pruning and/or removing trees using a rope and saddle method for tree climbing; OR successful completion of post-secondary coursework (nine (9) semester hours or twelve (12) quarter hours) in forestry, tree care, or related coursework; ORsuccessful completion of a vocational program innatural resources, forestry, or closely related field. Substitution(s): A certificate of completion of an approved tree climbing course from an institute recognized by the Tree Care Industry Association or the International Society of Arboriculture may substitute for the experience or education requirement.
