Overview /Objective
The NFL’s Sr. Coordinator, Event Location Strategy and Planning has two primary objectives: 1) Support the location selection process for the League’s tentpole events (including: Super Bowl, Draft, Combine, Pro Bowl Games, and International Games), and 2) Once event sites are determined, serve as a key point of contact with the local organizing committees in each market.
In both phases, the person must work closely with the entire Events Department as well as across NFL departments to ensure successful events, starting years in advance, through final completion. Success achieved by having strong understanding of details across each event and by providing host location-related guidance across all areas of the planning process.
The position will be based in the NFL’s New York City office and will require travel including for all tent pole NFL events as well as several planning trips and meetings throughout the year. Travel is estimated at ~25% of total work time.
Responsibilities
- Support the NFL’s domestic bid processes (including the creation of bid materials, in partnership with Legal and other departments) that take place for NFL tentpole events, which requires a blend of long-term strategic thinking with significant attention to detail given the complexity of the NFL’s tentpole event bids/proposals.
- Drive tentpole event location selection strategy, including recommended timelines, optimal processes, and detailed workflows.
- Throughout bid process, must balance financial, strategic, operational, and partnership considerations. Partner with key NFL departments including: Sponsorship, Legal, Finance, Marketing, Public Relations, Government Affairs, Audit, etc.
- Manage day-to-day relationships with all future and prospective NFL tentpole Host Cities (~10 at a time), navigating a variety of areas including: sponsorship considerations, financial matters, operational details, and more.
- Create documents and presentation materials for executive-level audiences.
- Work as part of the broader Events team to develop/execute tentpole events including: Super Bowl, Pro Bowl, Draft, Combine, and Kickoff.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ Years of sports, events, or related work
- Experience with creating presentations and decks for C-Level and large-scale planning meetings
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Understanding of the entertainment industry and live event strategies
- Must be able to travel domestically and internationally
- Ability to manage external partners and vendors, local organizing committees, Host Committees, and staff amongst the larger NFL League departments
- Proficient with Microsoft Suite
- Strong ability to implement and meet deadlines
- Experience managing budgets
- Strong organizational skills
- Solid negotiation, writing and communications skills
- Ability to create, nurture, and sustain key relationships across many different areas of businesses
- Proactive self-starter who works well within a team, strong interpersonal skills
- Strong attention to detail – work to anticipate issues in advance
- Problem solver - ability to not get overwhelmed and solve issues systematically
