EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO ESTABLISH AN EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT EAST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE DEPARTMENT OF ENGINEERING AND FOR FUTURE VACANCIES AS THEY OCCUR.

Under general direction of the Director of Engineering, the purpose of the position is coordinating and preparing geometric plans of roadway improvements, roadside designs, signal designs, specifications for signal plans, and control plans, including signs and pavement markings. Performs Civil Engineering technical duties for street, bridge, drainage, sewerage, and water system planning, development, design, and construction. The employee will perform reviews of various technical documents and data to ensure accuracy and provide comments and recommendations, i.e., invoices, engineering reports, inspection reports, permit applications, construction plans, specifications, survey data, and field notes. Coordinates and provides communication links between operations, maintenance, rehabilitation, and administration involving various entities such as consultants, utility agencies, and other Jefferson Parish Departments, such as but not limited to, Drainage, Sewerage, Water, Streets, Parkways, and Recreation. Performs related work as required. This position is an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or their designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish. Position requires driving of a personal vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and personal automobile with minimum liability insurance available for business use (business travel is reimbursed on a mileage basis) will be given preference.

Current employment and permanent civil service status with Jefferson Parish and possession of an accredited Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Environmental, or Industrial Engineering; plus, substantial (approx. two years), post-degree work experience in an engineering-, construction-, or geographical design-related role.

The examination may consist of a written test, a rating of training and experience, an oral panel interview or any combination thereof.
