Yale School of Nursing (YSN) is seeking an Instructional Technology and Design Specialist to join the dynamic and growing Office of Teaching and Learning (OTL). YSN, located on the beautiful and sprawling grounds of Yale West Campus, is conveniently located near major highways. Photo Gallery Tour | Yale West CampusReporting to the Director of Instructional Design and Learning Technology, the Instructional Technology and Design Specialist would be an integral part of the team, responsible for supporting instructional design, academic technology, and media-enhanced teaching and learning. Works closely with faculty and staff to strengthen the adoption of creative and effective solutions to extend the School's degree and non-degree instructional programs in campus-based, online, and blended settings. As a YSN liaison for technology-assisted teaching and learning, the Specialist will maintain an advanced working fluency with state-of-the art technologies and teaching practice. - Assists in the design, creation, and organization of digital course materials for distribution across all learning platforms.
- Researches and identifies new trends in online/hybrid learning design and practice for enhancement and growth of the School’s programs.
- Provides training for faculty, staff, and students on the use of instructional technology tools and resources.
- Provides high-level service for the delivery and adoption of instructional technology products, pilots, services, and initiatives.
- Maintains the School’s learning management system (currently Canvas) and its effective application to the YSN curriculum.
- Assists with development, deployment, and support of student-facing orientation and similar setup/self-test resources, via synchronous and asynchronous venues.
- Collaborates with YSN A/V Services to assess, test, and advance the use of classroom technologies.
- Maintains in-depth knowledge and advanced working fluency with state-of-the art technologies.
- Manages relationships with external vendors to ensure timely troubleshooting, improve user experience, and generate opportunities for learning tool development.
- Manages assigned project tasks to ensure timely and high-quality outcomes. Provides regular status reports on assigned projects.
- Carries the highest possible degree of service and responsiveness in complex, multi-vendor, and multi-platform environments.
- Provides first- and second-tier support for all applications.
- Proactively identifies problem trends and known error conditions and works towards developing long-term solutions, independently and in conjunction with Yale partners and external vendors.
- Develops and maintains OTL support standards, procedures, and documentation as required.
Excellence in working under time constraints, managing competing requests for services, and successfully working on multiple projects. Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills. Strong customer service orientation. 1. Identifies educational objectives and appropriate supporting technologies, and provides expert advice to faculty on course design and development. 2. Assists in the preparation of course materials for online distribution, uploading and organization of course materials, and production of digital resources that will be easily accessible online. 3. Serves as a primary technical support provider. 4. Designs, develops and deploys appropriate assessment tools to measure and evaluate all critical aspects of the online course environment. Researches and develops all necessary materials and benchmarking tools to obtain institutional approval for online courses. Participates in ongoing assessment of the effectiveness of the online course materials. 5. Establishes curricular standards. Assesses the web templates' capacity to accommodate a range of learning goals, instructional approaches, and online activities for courses across the educational curriculum. 6. Manages all online course development initiatives to ensure that program resources will meet expectations, while meeting schedule timeline and budgetary targets. 7. Provides expert advice on effective and efficient online teaching practices. Develops specialized faculty training materials as needed. 8. Develops an online orientation program, and provides ongoing support. Assesses support needs, and advances ongoing improvements accordingly. 9. Ensures the execution of the online program. Serves as a thought leader for online learning throughout the university. 10. Researches and identifies new trends in online learning design and practice. Makes recommendations to enhance and grow the program. 11. Manages relationships with external vendors involved in the production and delivery of courses. 12. May perform other duties as assigned. Bachelor’s degree in a related field three years of relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
