Job Description
The Compliance Associate Senior is a key member of Nordstrom’s Legal team supporting various lines of business, including Nordstrom’s Loyalty and Payments teams . This role is responsible for supporting business initiatives by partnering with stakeholders and providing in-depth regulatory knowledge to support the day to day operations and to identify compliance risks, gaps, and options to achieve their goals. This role is also involved in building a culture of compliance, maturing compliance programmatic operations, and evaluating and reporting compliance with regulatory and legal requirements and internal policies, as well as assessing the effectiveness of Nordstrom’s first line controls through risk-based reviews of business processes and compliance and legal requirements.
A day in the life…
- Review and advise as to consumer compliance requirements for, and implications of, day to day activities, projects and any other initiatives and serving as a compliance subject matter expert
- Perform and assist with risk-assessments of varying complexities and scope using standard auditing practices, which include developing criteria and transactional testing techniques, reviewing and analyzing data and processes, documenting and preparing workpapers, and compiling reports
- Identify and evaluate compliance and operational risk areas within Nordstrom’s Loyalty and Payment programs
- Identify opportunities to enhance compliance knowledge in first line business areas; develop and/or facilitate training sessions
- Support associates with regulatory and industry research and develop an understanding of current business processes to determine any applicable compliance requirements and/or industry best practices
- Identify, review and communicate applicable regulatory guidance, including proposed and final rules and regulations and other applicable guidance as appropriate to all stakeholders
- Provide support with compliance issues remediations/enhancements and partner with various lines of defenses to document and issues and make appropriate recommendations for corrective actions
- Review various trainings, internal communications, internal policies and procedures, and customer facing communications, including written consumer inquiries and complaints received through regulatory agencies and marketing materials
- Provide compliance oversight of findings identified by Nordstrom Compliance, Operational Risk Management, Internal Audit, and Bank partner
- Develop and deliver comprehensive reporting of compliance findings to internal Nordstrom business partners and Nordstrom Compliance department
- Perform data queries and provide data and test sample analysis
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders and across three lines of defense
- Maintain compliance and professional knowledge by attending training, educational workshops, and reviewing publications
- Review updates to compliance components of all applicable operating procedures
- Assist Manager with organization and assignment of tasks
- Develop and deliver comprehensive reporting of risk assessment results and compliance risks/trends to internal Nordstrom business partners and Nordstrom legal and compliance departments
- Assist with the implementation of Nordstrom compliance management program
You own this if you have…
- 7+ years’ experience in compliance, legal, risk management, or audit
- In-depth knowledge of Consumer Compliance laws and regulations applicable to the financial services or retail industry
- Advance skills with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills – both verbal and written
- Proficiency with SQL and Business Intelligence (BI) tools, e.g., SAS Enterprise Guide or Tableau
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to multi-task and keep multiple projects and issues on track simultaneously
- Self-directed ability to proactively identify needs and opportunities, and formulate solutions with minimal supervision

Pay Range Details
