The University of Virginia's Facilities Management (FM) Department is seeking an Electrical Assistant to join their HSPP Renovations team. Electrical Assistants support the work of licensed journey level electricians, seniors, and supervisors while learning on the job. They help ensure the highest quality trade products for the University and Health System. They learn a skilled trade through a combination of on-the-job training, technical education, and classroom instruction, often through a formal apprenticeship program. Through their work and education, they become skilled and may become certified in the licensed electrical trade. Electrical Assistants function in a learning capacity and operate under direct supervision.
Duties include:
Assist skilled journey level mechanics in performing routine system maintenance, preventative maintenance, building, construction, equipment repairs, assessing problems, undertaking corrective actions, and site cleanup.
Respond to emergency calls, including nights and weekends, as needed.
Communicate with customers regarding the status of work order, providing additional support and problem solving, as needed.
Perform all work in accordance with safety rules and procedures, such as OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations.
Develop an increasing familiarity with the skills and best practices of assigned trade.
Assist in pulling wire and installing electrical conduit.
Assist in marking and color-coding electrical wires.
In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will be required to pass a background check and health screen.
Compensation:
Anticipated Hiring Range: $18.00 - $22.00 ($37,440 - $45,760 per year). This is a full-time position with UVA benefits. Employee benefits package highlights include:

Physical Demands:
Employee will be required to lift various weights, climb ladders and stairs in order to complete jobs. The use of both hands and a repetitive motion will be required while performing duties as a mason.
