General Description / Primary Purpose
The Student Academic Success Services (SASS) Coordinator, under the direction of the Assistant Director or above, assists in the design, development and implementation of departmental processes and/or programs. Recommends policies and procedures to ensure effective coordination of departmental programs. This position provides academic support to students, manages student issues as they arise, hires and supervises student employees, and interacts professionally with university personnel, including faculty, Chairs, and Deans.
Essential Duties
Job Function
Contributes to the development, delivery, and assessment of student retention efforts including Supplemental Instruction (SI), tutoring, and Peer-Assisted Student Success (PASS) programs
Develops and implements effective programs for Tutor, Supplemental Instruction, Peer-Assisted Student Success to increase student success
Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains up to a 120 student employees, which include SI leaders, tutors, and PASS leaders for assigned disciplines
Supervises, observes and meets regularly with SI leaders, tutors, and PASS leaders
Makes decisions about appropriate assignment of student employees to specific support roles in SASS.
Conducts professional development sessions, workshops and training for Student leaders based on accreditation CRLA.
Uses end of term grade data to make decisions in collaboration with academic programs about which courses will receive SI/PASS or Tutoring support
Recommends improvements to university administration to enhance the effectiveness of academic programs
Ensures programs are aligned with certification standards set forth by the College Reading and Learning Association
Collects, analyzes, and evaluates data for reporting outcomes of SASS on course grades, retention, and degree progression
Develops, updates, and maintains training materials, forms, policies and procedures
Builds and maintains academic support schedules
Updates course schedule to reflect academic support
Manages attendance reporting database and generates regular reports
Creates student surveys for scheduling purposes and program assessment
Designs additional student-centered academic support programming such as tutor-led exam reviews, Incomplete contracts, and providing tutoring to local high schools."
Presents to faculty and university staff about the SI program and alternative academic support services offered by Student Academic Success Services
Supports expansion and promotion efforts for SI, tutoring, and PASS

SASS’ academic support programs are an integral part of Academic Affairs and contribute directly to the University’s graduation and retention rates. To that end, the Academic Success Services Coordinator will often be required to demonstrate a caring and patient attitude, utilize conflict resolution skills, and ensure that every effort is made to supply students with quality academic assistance.

This position has been designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA). This position has been designated as a CSA because it involves significant responsibility for student and campus activities and/or responsibility for campus security. This position has a reporting requirement because the University believes that your responsibility for students, campus activities and/or campus security will make you someone members of the University community will see as an authority figure and someone to whom they can seek help. A CSA is not expected to investigate or determine whether a criminal incident actually took place. A CSAs responsibility is a duty to report. All positions designated as CSAs are required to complete an online or in-person training session.
