Definition
The top salary range for this position currently reaches $69,170.65. The position will receive a 4.0% salary increase in July 2025, a 3.0% salary increase in July 2026; bringing the top step salary to $74,095.60.
Under general supervision, this position is responsible for coordinating the operation of facilities, including scheduling use, negotiating use agreements; scheduling and supervising staff, volunteers and contractors; conducting programs, activities and special events.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
Supervision is provided by the Recreation Supervisor or Deputy Director.
Essential Job Functions

Staff orientation, training, scheduling, supervision and evaluation; plan, organize, implement, and expand programs and activities; facility management including staff scheduling and assignment; negotiating use agreements and working with community groups and organizations desiring use of available facilities; organize and conduct programs, activities, and special events for facility participants; purchasing needed supplies and equipment; promote and market of facility activities and events; recommend policies and procedures for facility use; coordinate maintenance and report needed repairs/conditions; maintain appropriate records; and perform related duties as assigned.
Qualification Guidelines
To qualify for this classification, an individual must possess; any combination of experience and education that would likely produce the required knowledge and abilities, and enable the individual to successfully perform the essential job functions of the position. A typical combination is:
Education and/or Experience:Minimum of two years of college with emphasis in Recreation, Physical Education, Social Services or related field and two years of experience in the field of recreation working with youth and/or seniors and/or coordinating and facilitation programs and special events. A bachelor's degree is desirable.
Knowledge of:Procedures for implementing recreational activities and programs through community participation. Program content for specialized community recreation activities; personnel management principles, practices, and techniques including methods for employee selection, supervision, evaluation, and training; common recreational, cultural, and social needs of the community; facility management techniques and organizational skills; familiarity with capabilities and limitations of the older adults; knowledge of principles and practices of working with the elderly, as well as youth of varying ages and adults.
Ability to:Utilize modern office equipment including computer equipment; demonstrate a caring and compassionate nature; ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing; able to interact with people of all ages and retain their interest in scheduled activities; identify methods to maximize service effectiveness and efficiency; and prepare and distribute publicity concerning new and ongoing recreational offerings.
Licenses and Certificates
Possession of a valid California Driver's license and maintain a satisfactory driving record are required. Ability to provide own transportation is also required.
SELECTION PROCESS:
Applicants must complete an application online prior to the final filing date. Applications will be screened for qualifications, appropriate background, and only the most qualified will be invited to participate in the examination process. Successful candidates must achieve a minimum passing score in each of the test components. Applicants will be notified by e-mail as to the test date, time, and location. The examination process will include an oral interview weighted at 100%.
Candidates will be required to pass a City administered pre-employment physical and may be required to pass a thorough background investigation and polygraph examination as part of the selection process. Candidates who do not pass will be disqualified and removed from the eligibility list.
