Responsibilities include
- Applying professional physician concepts, examines and diagnoses patients, prescribes and administers me... more detailsdical treatments, advises patients on how to use medications, performs select procedures, and performs other medical functions, as authorized.- Orders examinations, analyses, X-rays, special diets, and writes prescriptions.- Reviews charts and provides consultation to nurse practitioners.- Serves as resource and provides medical guidance to nurses and other members of clinical staff.- Attends and participates in staff conferences.- Adapts to changing paradigms in the delivery of comprehensive, high quality, highly accessible, cost-effective care to the campus patient population.- Demonstrates exceptional communication skills and professionalism with patients and clinical team members.- This is a full time 12 month position.- Provides primary medical care to Temple University students: assesses and manages students with acute episodic and chronic illness on an appointment and urgent walk-in basis.- Obtains health history and performs appropriate physical examinations on patients.- Recommends appropriate treatments for specified medical conditions.- Provides relevant health instruction, counseling and principles of health promotion and maintenance.- Appropriately coordinate follow-up care, including referrals.- Documents clearly and appropriately in electronic medical record in a timely basis.- Provides medical oversight to nursing and staff including CRNP's, DNP's, RNs, LPNs, and medical assistants.- Participate in the written collaboration agreement with Nurse Practitioners, including prescribing and chart review.- Assists in the development of medical and nursing protocols.- Maintains Continuing Education requirements for licensure.- Remains up to date in area of primary specialty and student health care.- Investigates and implements best practices; relies on technical expertise, peers, and management for problem-solving resources; makes decisions, within scope of professional practice, that impact clinical care within student health.- Care is mainly rendered at Main Campus, but coverage of Health Sciences Campus may occur. Staff Physician may be assigned to either of these sites.- Participates in staff meetings, quality improvement projects and committees as appropriate.- Participates in the maintenance of an appropriate formulary by making recommendations for medical and surgical supplies to appropriate committee.- Assists in the coordination of outreach in cooperation with other departments, where appropriate, for specific medical issues, e.g., immunization programs for health sciences students.- Promotes health education and illness prevention initiatives throughout the university.- Utilizes laboratory and dispensary services appropriately.- Performs other related duties as assigned. Education & Experience
MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school. Board certified or board eligible in family medicine, internal medicine or adolescent medicine, if board-eligible, must pass boards within one year of hire. Prefer previous clinical experience in a University Student Health office. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
