Job Summary
The Data Analyst is a research fellow position. The Data Analyst will perform data analytics and apply machine learning algorithms as a research assistant in the principal investigator's research group.
The Data Analyst will learn and apply state-of-the-art python-based machine learning and computer vision algorithms for autonomous driving systems technology. They will also assist in general office/administrative tasks and likely engage in other activities outside of this role aimed at developing their knowledge of stakeholder management and reporting, professional confidence, technical sophistication, and other project management-related skill.
Essential Functions
Manage the datasets related to the operation of the AVS, such as multivariate time series and video frames. The datasets come from a variety of sensors, such as LiDAR, RADAR, stereoscopic cameras, GPS, battery consumption, and more.
Perform descriptive statistics and exploratory analysis of the datasets using python and R, and/or other computing environments, as needed.
Develop codes in python and R (and/or other computing environments) to extract meaningful information from the datasets as described in the project’s contract.
Use of machine-learning and computer vision algorithms on video frames for object detection, classification, and tracking.
Incorporate into the project’s codes traditional and state-of-the-art machine-learning algorithms for condition monitoring, anomaly detection, and fault classification.
Maintain the project’s codes through a version-control system (such as GitHub).
Prepare summarized reports from the results of the analyzed data.
Perform quantitative statistical analyses using R, on responses to a survey related to the project.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, mechanical engineering or other relevant field
At least 1.5 years of relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications
Excellent programming skills in Python, R, Matlab or other programming language
Experience with machine learning algorithms and computer vision
Physical Requirements
Typically sitting at a desk/table

Additional Information
This is a full-time temporary position classified as non-exempt. The pay offered is based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
