WHAT YOU’LL DO
Under the general direction of a dean, an Instructor will provide comprehensive classroom instruction to students from diverse backgrounds for the purpose of facilitating the attainment of their academic or vocational objectives.
As the Athletic Director, you will coordinate a comprehensive community college athletics program, overseeing scheduled team competitions and training, which will require evening and weekend hours.
There is one tenure-track position at Moorpark College starting during the Fall 2024 semester. The initial focus of the assignment will be to serve as the college’s Athletic Director.
Please note that all academic employees of the District are scheduled depending upon staffing needs as defined within the terms of the VCCCD/AFT Agreement. Nontraditional assignments such as evening, weekend, dual enrollment (high school), or off-site assignments may be made with consent of faculty member, management or when special conditions exist on a campus as defined.

Moorpark College, one of three colleges in the Ventura County Community College District, was founded in 1967. It serves approximately 15,000 students, and with a "students first" philosophy, empowers its diverse community of learners to complete their goals for academic transfer, basic skills, and career education. Moorpark College is one of the most beautiful community colleges in California. Instructor Duties:
Provide academic instruction to students through lecture, lab, or performance courses; assess and develop cognitive abilities, communication skills, and higher order thinking skills among students through appropriate assignments and activities in one-on-one, classroom, and distance mediated instructional settings. E
Advise and instruct students regarding programs of study, other institutions of higher education, lifelong learning resources, and effective study skills; refer students to support services, programs, resources, and other professionals as appropriate. E
Observe and evaluate student performance in meeting course objectives and student learning outcomes through assignments, projects, discussions, and examinations; provide feedback in a timely manner to student inquiries in class, online, or during established consultation office hours. E
Plan and organize instruction according to approved course outlines and student learning outcomes to maximize student learning in alignment with department, college, and district goals; implement the student performance objectives as listed on the official course outline of record. E
Maintain current, accurate records of course enrollment, attendance, student academic progress, course curriculum, and student learning outcomes; prepare and submit data and reports related to course and student progress in a timely manner. E
Evaluate and select instructional materials such as textbooks, manuals, software, and tools in collaboration, as appropriate, with discipline faculty; order instructional materials according to campus bookstore procedure to ensure timely delivery. E
Participate in curriculum and program development; update syllabi; collaborate with discipline faculty on a regular basis to assess and revise measurable student performance indicators for each course; may provide input into the development of student learning outcomes. E
Revise and update course content and materials of instruction in accordance with new theory, application, and industry developments within the discipline or area of specialization. E
Attend and participate on committees and in department, division, campus, and district meetings; may participate in articulation and matriculation related activities.
May provide work direction to others.

E = Essential Duties
Athletic Director Duties:
Plan, organize, direct, and assess the activities, services, and operations of a comprehensive athletic program in keeping with high standards for performance and ethics; allocate personnel and resources to optimize department efficiency and effectiveness. E
In collaboration with the Dean of Student Learning, set annual goals to ensure athletic programs are consistent with institutional priorities; maintain communication with other departments to promote the integration of athletics into the broader educational mission of the college and District. E
Ensure compliance with college, District, conference, local, state, and federal guidelines as they relate to the Moorpark College Athletic Department, including but not limited to the areas of student/athletes eligibility requirements and gender equity compliance. E
Disseminate information on and implement rules and guidelines for specific sports; compile, interpret and disseminate information pertaining to NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA transfer requirements. E
Develop and oversee an academic success program for student athletes; monitor student matriculation and graduation. E
In collaboration with the Counseling Department, ensure optimal counseling and academic planning for student athletes. E
Coordinate awards programs to recognize the achievements of student athletes. E
Train, schedule, supervise, and assist in evaluating the work performance of assigned personnel, including head and assistant coaches and staff for all intercollegiate sports. E
Expand and improve program development through seminars, workshops, and clinics. E
Provide game management, risk management, and supervision for all Moorpark College intercollegiate home athletic contests; schedule athletic events and secure officials, transportation and personnel necessary for program implementation; work with appropriate personnel to ensure the proper scheduling, maintenance, and use of all athletic facilities. E
In collaboration with the Dean of Student Learning, develop and monitor program budget. E
Coordinate athletic fundraising marketing and public relations in compliance with CCCAA (California Community College Athletic Association) and the VCCCD policies. Provide leadership in community and secondary school outreach for program building. E
Represent the Moorpark College Athletic Department and establish a strong positive presence at the local, regional, state, and national level as an active member and participant in the CCCAA, the Western State Conference, the Southern California Football Association, the Southern California Wrestling Association, the State Community College Organization of Physical Educators, and California Community College Athletic Directors Association. E
Participate in departmental and college activities that facilitate student learning. Complete related duties associated with full-time faculty employment, such as participation in college governance through committee assignments. Participate as an active member in college-wide and district committees. E
Perform other duties as assigned.
E = Essential Duties
Candidates must possess the minimum qualifications for the discipline as approved by the California Community Colleges Board of Governors and defined in the Minimum Qualifications for Faculty and Administrators in California Community Colleges handbook.
Candidates must meet both the Health AND Kinesiology minimum qualifications.
Health Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s in health science, health education, biology, nursing, physical education, kinesiology, exercise science, dietetics, nutrition or public health OR Bachelor’s in any of the above AND Master’s in any biological science OR the equivalent*; OR possession of an appropriate California Community College Credential.
Kinesiology Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in kinesiology, physical education, exercise science, education with an emphasis in physical education, kinesiology, physiology of exercise or adaptive physical education OR Bachelor’s degree in any of the above AND Master’s degree in any life science, dance, physiology, health education, recreation administration or physical therapy OR the equivalent*; OR possession of an appropriate California Community College Credential.
All coursework must be from a recognized accredited college or university.

*EQUIVALENCY
The Ventura County Community College District, in its desire to select outstanding faculty members from the largest possible pool of qualified applicants, recognizes the fact that candidates may attain expertise in a discipline through a variety of means. Certain combinations of education, experience and other accomplishments in the field may be judged by the District as equal to the stated minimum qualifications for this position.
Candidates whose transcripts do not list the title of their degree exactly as listed above, but feel they possess such equivalent qualifications are encouraged to complete and submit the Supplemental Questionnaire for Equivalency with their application for review by the Districtwide Equivalency Committee.
Minimum Qualifications state: “Master’s degree in agriculture”.
Candidate’s transcripts state: “Master’s degree in agricultural science”.
Since the degree on the candidate’s transcripts in the example do not EXACTLY MATCH the degree listed in the minimum qualifications section, this candidate MUST complete the Supplemental Questionnaire for Equivalency in order to be considered. When completing the form, be sure to explain in detail how your qualifications are equivalent to the required minimum qualifications. Do not assume that you do not need to submit a Supplemental Questionnaire for Equivalency because your degree is similar to a degree stated in the minimum qualifications. Degree titles that are not an exact match will not be considered outside of the equivalency process.
The equivalency review is an independent process for district wide disciplines that is separate from the recruitment process to fill a vacancy. A subcommittee of discipline experts that is coordinated by an Academic Senate President will review the equivalency materials and make a recommendation as to whether or not the applicant demonstrated they have qualifications that are equivalent to those shown in the minimum qualifications section of the job posting. For disciplines that are unique to a specific campus the equivalency may be done by the hiring committee along with an Academic Senate President. Please be aware that the hiring committee may not be able to wait for the results from the equivalency review due to various time constraints and may need to move forward with the recruitment process.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Successful experience as an Athletic Director at a high school, community college or four year college/university; or successful head coaching experience at a community college or four year college/university.
- Knowledge of California Commission of Athletics rules and regulations.
- Experience with game and event management for athletic events.
- Knowledge of policies and procedures for community college athletic programs.

PAY PHILOSOPHY
Annual salary is based on an eleven month contract. Salary is commensurate with academic preparation and experience for placement on the salary schedule. Maximum advanced salary placement credit for prior experience is 7 steps on the fulltime academic salary schedule. Further advancements are based on longevity and educational growth. Fringe benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance plans for you and your eligible dependents.
